According the size, culture and dynamic of every company. An appreciation plan will be scheduled. The goal is to find a time one a month or once a quarter where individuals can leave their desks and all levels of hierarchies will reunite to enjoy a good time with some yummy food in the center of the table. (Please dont bring the same store-bought disgusting cake every month) Expectation and excitement need to be created, allergies and good healthy choices should be included. On this pre-scheduled planed a budget will be assigned. Remember this is an investment on the employees' morale which will yield in amazing dividends. Depending on that budget it will be decided if a breakfast, lunch or only snack bar should be considered. However the key is to make sure "good quality food will be on that table and some unexpected elements included" Depending on the dates assigned, a "theme" will be chosen. It could be tied to a National Holiday. Décor, photo props, a photo booth, crazy touches should be planned. Those are the one that will encourage fun conversations, that will ignite the spark that everyone together can utilize. Most important this gathering should be utilized to bring some honor and recognition to team members. It could be for birthdays, for work anniversaries for departmental victories. Being consistent and creative. Little touches go a long way. The other important piece is to "personalize" this celebrations. Find out in advance about preferences, allergies, diet restrictions, about what would make those celebrants to SMILE and feel special. Bring the surprise factor, get out of the box. These are the moments to clap, to recognize, to honor, to laugh, to take pictures, to get to know each other better and to make memories together. If these gatherings are exciting and different every time, everybody will be eager to attend and contribute to the moment. "A team that eats together, stays together" There is some productive magic when a organization is able to transform ORDINARY moments into JOY!

Idea Title

Take a JOYful break... in the BREAKROOM!

How the Idea will inspire the experience and expression of gratitude within an organization.

"We are so caught up in our destination that we forget to enjoy the journey, appreciation is a wonderful thing!" ~Unknown I truly believe that employees are BRAND AMBASSADORS for any organization. Management needs to find creative ways to engage employees. On these -fun occasions- different groups will be making memories together, getting to know each other, creating deeper relationships, having fun as a team. Ultimately, they will find themselves talking about clients, projects, challenges or triumphs with a clear sense of commitment & PURPOSE! Scientific data reveals that laughter is an integral part of physical and corporate wellness. Companies need to craft an atmosphere to foster that.

Who are you innovating for?

Any organization that could be trapped in a tedious daily routine. Every company's size, essence, culture, dynamic and demographic is different but there is one thing in common. We all humans like food, enjoy surprises and have the need to create deeper relationships. THE BREAKROOM can be the perfect place to encourage casual conversations, incite some laughs and transform ordinary moments into JOY!

What type of workplaces are you innovating for?

At this moment I have at least 6 companies utilizing our concept in a recurrent monthly or quarterly basis. Many more calling for special occasions. 1) Pest Control Co. - Appreciation THEMED breakfast during monthly meeting. We picked the theme tied w/a holiday an leadership lesson. 2) Insurance Co. - Celebrate employee Bdys w/favorite food of celebrant 3) Mortgage Co.- They celebrate different teams with a themed-crazy-fun lunch. These are only some examples. THE SURPRISE factor is key!

How you envision the Idea being introduced to your selected organization?

I need to expand. Today I am the designer, the photographer, the marketing mger, the delivery guy, the accountant, graphic/web designer and everything else! Well... my clients are my Sales VP's because they are the one sending me to new opportunities but I need to start duplicating what has been done in small scale. I need to count on staff that could use social media and email marketing more proactively to get more business from loyal clients and expand the ratio. I want to get interns that could learn from the experience and help me with easy tasks. I have people already asking me to mail and ship "appreciation boxes" and the 1st one is about to be mailed. it is time to the next BIG step!

What obstacles, if any, do you foresee in implementing this Idea, and how would they be overcome?

I launched officially my business in March 17th, 2016 with ribbon Cutting at Frisco Chamber of Commerce. It took me 6 months of really HARD work, lots of networking, and a HUGE amount of perseverance and FAITH to get in August my 1s client. Next month 1 more. It was really until January 2017 when people started to see images and pictures of what was only in my head for long time. The last 5 months had been EXTREMELY exciting! Reputation has been created and a brand is now recognized. MORE TO DO!

How will you test and prototype your solution?

At this point testing has been done. It is time to expand and "touch" more companies at a time. Here a clients testimonial: "I wanted to find a way to show appreciation to my employees. I met Lilian at the frisco chamber , and she put a great program together for me and my staff. Now we have monthly appreciation theme breakfast. My staff loves joy in the break room days." Alex Cantaboni owner Safe Pro Pest Control

What immediate next steps will you take if you receive an implementation grant.

It would be huge, A HUGE BLESSING! An exciting challenge and responsibility that would really take my business to the next level. Until now it has been one person show. "All me" partnering with other excellent local business owners as my vendors that help me to ensure top quality. But a grant would give me financially the room to breath and start delegating my accounting and marketing activities to other professionals so I can move forward with specific plans and expand this proved concept!

At what stage of development is your Idea?

  • Operating Concept / Startup: You have fulfilled the stages of testing, undertaken a full scale roll-out, and are currently operating this concept/idea as a business.

When my husband accepted the promotion that would relocate our family to Texas. I went back to Corporate for a couple of years, there as an employee it became clear to me which "small actions" could be taken by visionary leaders making a huge impact in our daily routine. I launched this concept committed to leverage the different experiences and partner with companies becoming a valuable resource!

Tell us about your experience

After earning my bachelor degree in Business and working in the Marketing, Design and Branding Industries, I had the joy of owning a successful Gourmet Bakery in Okemos, MI. There I received the 2009 Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Four years later opportunities relocated our family to Frisco,TX. I closed the bakery and decided to reinvent myself. Now as founder at Joy In the Breakroom, I am passionately taking "gratitude" to a new level in the corporate world!
