Idea Title

The E-Shoutout!

How the Idea will inspire the experience and expression of gratitude within an organization.

Recognition sparks appreciation and spreads the flames of gratitude.

Who are you innovating for?

All staff members in the organization, including clinicians as well as administrative staff.

What type of workplaces are you innovating for?

Our workplace is a small Non Profit Mental Health Clinic in an urban setting -- the clinic is under-resourced, has a high volume of clients, high-stress, and a high risk population. The Organization has approximately 35 staff members.

How you envision the Idea being introduced to your selected organization?

This idea can be introduced via company wide emails -- a selected member will start the chain and an staff member is welcome to continue to string of gratitude filled comments.

What obstacles, if any, do you foresee in implementing this Idea, and how would they be overcome?

The obstacles I see in implementing this idea is that some members may not wish to partake in this activity; however, this may be overcome by giving a reward to the staff member who receives the most recognition in a month.

How will you test and prototype your solution?

We will test this first by starting off with a smaller E-mail chain consisting of only the supervisors and then grow from there.

What immediate next steps will you take if you receive an implementation grant.

If an implementation grant is received then we will start off first with the E-mail chain and a reward to the staff member who received the most recognition and then we will grow from there, using the mentoring organizations as an aid for further endeavors to increase workplace gratitude.

At what stage of development is your Idea?

  • Research & Early Testing: You are exploring an idea, gathering inspiration and information needed to test it with real users.

Please describe from where your Idea emerged

Hi Allyn,

Great to see you in the Ideas Phase of the Challenge! I'm curious about what would incentivize people to participate in this initiative?

Also, is there any chance you could find an image to go along with it? Images help grab attention and tell a story. You should be able to use the Edit Contribution button on the top of your post and follow the instructions to add images from there. Looking forward to seeing more of your inspiring insights on OpenIDEO.

Please update your post within the next hour! The Ideas Phase closes today at 3:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

Excited to learn more!
