Employees briefly write down a small thing they are grateful for everyday and something they did that would make others grateful for on post-it notes and pin it to a large board.

Idea Title

Post-it on a board!

How the Idea will inspire the experience and expression of gratitude within an organization.

This idea will inspire people within in organization to show gratitude for the everyday little things. It will also help encourage people to do something that would make others feel thankful for.

Who are you innovating for?

Basically, this idea is based for any type of community of individuals whether it be big or small. This will benefit diverse peoples within the community. Employees, employers, interns, volunteers, custodians, and even the big guys up at HR.

What type of workplaces are you innovating for?

Any type and size of workplace full of creative individuals. A large group of people will fill up the board more but a small group will make it easier to share. This concept can be used in any workplace worldwide.

How you envision the Idea being introduced to your selected organization?

The ideal way to present this idea is a basic employee meeting equipped with varying colors of post-it notes and 2 large boards of some sort (to put sticky notes on). Employers would introduce the concept but everyone should participate.

What obstacles, if any, do you foresee in implementing this Idea, and how would they be overcome?

The biggest obstacle I can predict is lack of motivation within the community. An individual can easily be uninspired and lack the effort to do something other would be thankful for. Another problem with implementing the idea would be lack of participation.

How will you test and prototype your solution?

The concept is a simple effective idea that can be tested by trial and error. Just trying it out in a certain workplace community will effectively prototype it.

What immediate next steps will you take if you receive an implementation grant.

This concept is beneficiary to inspire individuals to remove any but of pessimistic view they had and replace it with gratitude for the little things in life. The concept targets to change individuals but it will broadly inspire a whole community because one person can inspire others. The goal is eventually to have whole communities inspire other communities. The grant opportunity will help gain recognition and further the ideal to varying workplaces and communities worldwide.

At what stage of development is your Idea?

  • Research & Early Testing: You are exploring an idea, gathering inspiration and information needed to test it with real users.

Please describe from where your Idea emerged

I was briefly reading through the summaries of other peoples' ideas on the OpenIDEO website when I was inspired for my concept.

Thanks for sharing your idea, Christine Nguyen ! I like this idea, but I had a few questions:

- How would the "post-it board" scale for companies that have more than a few dozen employees, and won't occupy the same workspace?
- Would the post-it's be written and addressed to one recipient, or would they be anonymized?
- What makes post-it's the optimal medium for expressions of gratitude?

I wonder if this same idea wouldn't be more effective on a communication platform that the company already uses, such as Slack. A variety of companies already use internal communication platforms, and integrating a board with expressions of gratitude into these platforms could increase visibility and further inspire positive behavior.
