POST-ITIVES – Our IDEA

There will be monthly lunches in which, a part of sharing a free lunch, the employees are proposed to think about the “Question of the Month”. The question aims to create awareness of the positive things that they have in their workplace, always aiming to highlight the value and impact that those positive things have in their routine. The question will always encourage thinking about someone else, or someone else’s work done, an action or gesture the employees can be grateful for. For instance, always in the context of the workplace: What are you thankful for this month?, How have you been supported in this last month?, Which is the most sincere way that you have been shown gratitude?

The aim of these questions is to launch the POST-ITIVES topics of the month. Having this topic in mind, only as an inspiration, the colleagues are encouraged to leave anonymous Post-Its to their colleagues (manager level also included) to express their gratitude and appreciation.

The messages are anonymous to promote the authenticity of the content.

We use as a tool the Post-Its to create a visual reminder that, in spite of the problems that the everyday work may bring, there are still positive things going on in the organization.

The monthly lunch is aiming to introduce the Idea in an informal way to the employees, having a mind-break moment from work, avoiding an extra meeting in their working hours. This way there is less risk of having an invitation declined.

There is a POST-IT team who is in charge of organizing the lunches. Ideally the members of this team are the informal leaders of the organization, game-changers and are enthusiastic about the program. They are the gatekeepers of it.

How the Idea will inspire the experience and expression of gratitude within an organization.

It will inspire it as it is anonymous, making it authentic. It’s easy, in terms of time and resources. It’s engaging as it is always exciting leaving a surprise to someone, as it is nice to receive. The perception towards work will change little by little, thanks to this visual reminder that things are not that bad, there are things to be grateful for.

Who are you innovating for?

Two audiences, the employees of an organization and for the management level.

What type of workplaces are you innovating for?

In a fast-paced workplace, stressful due to workload.

How you envision the Idea being introduced to your selected organization?

Build the Communication Plan. A meeting with the management level (decision making members of the organization). They will be introduced the benefits of gratitude, the POST-ITIVES program highlighting that the Idea will be led by employees, ideally the informal leaders they have in the organization (Positive influencers). It will be also introduced the costs (working hours of the POST-IT Team, lunches and Post-Its) and, finally the impact the program will have in the organization in terms of performance and less personnel rotation.

What obstacles, if any, do you foresee in implementing this Idea, and how would they be overcome?

Lack of engagement from the employees. To overcome this possibility the POST-IT team would lead certain initiatives to create the Gratitude momentum and experience. They will be active participants of the program.

How will you test and prototype your solution?

The test will be done with the management level (decision makers in the organization), would be a pilot within the organization, and also a way to get their alignment within the Idea.

What immediate next steps will you take if you receive an implementation grant.

Review the possibility of replicating the Idea using technology to apply it in remote teams- a digitalized version.
