GRATLY is a software/application platform intended to help INSPIRE users to show their GRATITUDE across a variety of EXPRESSIONS and EXPERIENCES. The platform has three primary three components - Act, Share, and Grow.

ACT is the infinity. Act helps to answer whether or not our organization, and we as individuals, are being grateful as exemplified by our acts of gratitude toward others. It contains a live feed of acts of gratitude which are anonymized, as well as a dashboard of our own acts, and insights as to who we are expressing gratitude toward with helpful suggestions.

SHARE is the heart. Share acts as the conduit, coach and facilitator helping us to express our gratitude using the application itself, or depending on the type of expression/experience reminding us not to forget and to utilize a plethora of methods, whilst pulling in the preferences of the individual we are being grateful for.

GROW is watering can. Grow helps us to reflect on ourselves and develop our senses through diverse offerings and exercises. It also importantly opens us to the movement and community which is open source, where employees can join one another on their journey. Creating connections outside of work and leading to a deeper community with meaningful relationships who express gratitude for one another.

Idea Title

GRATLY improve your gratitude! Prototype:

How the Idea will inspire the experience and expression of gratitude within an organization.

I see GRATLY as creating a community around gratitude inspiring us with expressions, experiences, journaling, subtraction, meditation, etc. and providing a tangible pulse, heart beat and soul to the collective. Reminding us all that the world and everything in it is largely human, and helping us to show our gratitude for one another. This will in turn hopefully lead to a more open, tolerant, respectful and appreciative planet.

Who are you innovating for?

I am innovating for individuals, groups, organizations, communities, and the world as wildly farfetched and optimistic as that seems.

What type of workplaces are you innovating for?

All - although I wonder about how the concept translates in some of the more service oriented vocations such as a waiter/waitress where there may be different norms and less collaboration. However I think the concept could be modified and constructed modularly in order to account for this to a degree. Additional refinement may be needed due to cultural differences. The current prototype is likely best suited for small to mid-sized organizations in developed countries (i.e. USA, UK, etc.).

How you envision the Idea being introduced to your selected organization?

1. Create Business Case 2. Present Business Case to Leadership 3. Create Buy in from Management 4. Develop Project Management Office and Change Management teams - including designation of change agents and employee leaders to bring along on journey who exemplify and exhibit gratitude and are likely to champion change. 5. Clearly define goals, success measures, timeline, scope, roles and responsibilities, costs, etc. Brainstorm implementation obstacles and ensure root cause is understood with a mitigating design in place. 6. Hard sync with leadership on final plan. 7. Roll out & Execute Plan - Leadership announce plan to company, mgmt. reinforce to team, change champions to monitor.

What obstacles, if any, do you foresee in implementing this Idea, and how would they be overcome?

I see the classic constraints in this potential implementation both in the creation of the concept and the implementation of the design at another company - people, processes, and technology. I believe in both instances (creating concept & implementation) issues would have to be mitigated by the successful execution of a comprehensive project plan with a clear charter, goals, measures, roles and responsibilities, stakeholder mgmt., change mgmt., etc.

How will you test and prototype your solution?

1.0 Feedback from openIDEO challenge contributors. Comments have been enabled on the prototype and I would truly value feedback from those knowledgable about the topic who have researched it and may have insights/ideas for refinement. 2.0 Group Testing - Take different groups inside an organization and survey them on gratitude levels, usefulness of sections, etc. Present findings and refine. Repeat process with new groups until surveys establish that concept achieves the goal of inspiring.

What immediate next steps will you take if you receive an implementation grant.

1.0 Partner with GGSC - namely to build out the content and refine the best practices/playbook sections on the share side of the application, replacing some of my placeholders with bonafide techniques and integrating in their exercises and steps. 2.0 Leverage Relations - See if through UC Berkeley professors to strategize the development of the app. IDEO for illustrations. Students could possibly execute development. 3.0 Grant funding to be applied toward gaps - likely development costs.

At what stage of development is your Idea?

  • Prototyping: You have conducted some small tests or experiments with prospective users and will continue developing idea through these tests.

Please describe from where your Idea emerged

Reflection and questions. I began by writing out all my questions about the challenge. I found that as I explored the topic, that the consciousness alone elevated my personal feelings of gratitude. The idea was born from that insight - I wanted a simple way to raise consciousness and leverage research and studies. GRATLY seeks to answer three basic questions: Am I (or is my company) grateful? How can I share my gratitude most effectively? How can grow I and develop my sense of gratitude?

Tell us about your experience

I've worked in HR for 5 years and have experience across the entire HR lifecycle; I most recently helped to scale an organization 3x and build out the HR function. My interest in HR grew out of team dynamics and organizational behavior as experienced through athletics, an interest which was furthered by an education in Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University.
