The idea is to create gratefulness awareness through a platform integrated to daily usage applications such as internet browsers and emails. The first stage will be to develop an application that populates what you first see when you open your computer’s browser. There will be only one display at the time with a very simple and light design. While being powerful, this should not generate anxiety or require engagement.

There will be two type of displays: messages, and data visualizations

There will be 4 types of messages:

  1. General gratitude: Display/ messages of general findings/studies, grateful phrases, etc.

  2. People I have helped: Display/ messages of direct messages from people to the user. The equivalent of thank you notes that the user has received. These notes can be directly sent through this platform across users or can be gathered from emails. Emails messages gathering will be the second phase of the project and it is described below.

  3. People that have helped me: Display/ messages of people that the user has sent thank you notes, appreciation words, or is planning on doing it.

  4. Engagement: Display/ messages that ask the user why is he/she grateful for or if there is a person that has make a difference in his/her work/life that week/month.

Second stage of the project is to have some type of application or macros build in the email that can populate these messages.

The stage of the project is to gather data and generate visualizations for each person and for the company as a whole. This will be a direct tool to measure this projects impact as well.

This project is one that facilitates being grateful across co-workers but does force them to. It is also planned as an add-on to normal day applications that users already interact with to increase its impact, but it could be analyzed as its own platform.

Idea Title

Everyday great

How the Idea will inspire the experience and expression of gratitude within an organization.

This idea tries to cope with challenges of cultures in which being grateful is not embedded in the culture such as Ecuador or England, and the day to day challenges of prioritization for people with very busy agendas. This idea will accomplish 3 things. First, it will remind people the benefits of being grateful and trends around the world in this matter incentivizing this behavior. Second, it will give ideas on how to do it. Third, it will be embedded in the culture to become part of a normal operations mode of a person at work.

Who are you innovating for?

As mentioned before, this is planned for companies and corporations that want to increase this. The context can be the US or countries in which this change management will be harder as it is less embedded in the system.

What type of workplaces are you innovating for?

Workplaces that have very busy agendas, with a high number of employees and high degree of mobility or less degree of interactions.

How you envision the Idea being introduced to your selected organization?

The idea can be introduced as a sample, since it is interactive we could measure engagement, results, etc and then sign contracts with the company based on performance and licenses.

What obstacles, if any, do you foresee in implementing this Idea, and how would they be overcome?

There will be some concerns on security of their information as well as low barriers on entry.

How will you test and prototype your solution?

The product could be first tested as a "Chrome Tab" which is a model that can be easily created for the simple messages for the first interaction with consumers. While this is being tested, we can start generating the tagging macros for the emails and then tested also this. The test can be done at different levels starting with students, and then moving into organizations (NGOs, etc.), and then companies

What immediate next steps will you take if you receive an implementation grant.

Building the "Chrome Tab" and visualizations, starting contacting potential partner organizations (clients)

At what stage of development is your Idea?

  • Research & Early Testing: You are exploring an idea, gathering inspiration and information needed to test it with real users.

Please describe from where your Idea emerged

The idea emerged as I believe this is a cultural change more than anything and as such it has to be easy and fresh in the minds of the users all the time. We have done a project in one class of a "Chrome Tab" with a class phrases that helped us remember things.

Tell us about yourself

I am a dual degree student at HKS and Wharton that is interested in pursuing a career in innovation. I was born and raise Ecuador but has also lived in Mexico, China, France, Switzerland, US which set different challenges every time but that has allowed me to build incredible empathy to others. I am able to translate this into actions and build communities and teams that work for a common goal.
