We spend so much of our lives going to school and training up for jobs that we are not sure we would even like.  When we start our education journey, we think we would like to do a particular job, but then there is a long time before we enter the workforce in that job.  Why not test our personal career hypothesis by trying on that job early in our lives.

It is a new process or method of learning that would allow people of all ages to shadow the job or role to 'try before they buy' that lifetime of education.

Who is your idea designed for and how does it reimagine higher education to support the needs of tomorrow?

Everyone looking to get a job or create one.

This idea emerged from:

  • An individual

What skills, input or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?

brainstorming different ways to implement this new model of discovery learning.

What early, lightweight experiment might you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?

Once a week, children go to work with a person within a trusted network to learn about the job that the person does. This would be a job that the child had expressed an interest. They could try a number of different jobs that interest them. This could be done at the age a few years prior to the child being eligible to work. This would allow for some time to discover what they like as well as try many different roles/jobs.
