iTeach

is about delineation of teaching from the content. Given there is an enormous amount of content available, teachers or institutes do not necessarily have to create their own. However a teachers, or mentor or coach' role is changing. Rather than preparing the lectures it is about the support, the coaching, the interaction and guidance of individuals and groups.

effectively individuals or institutes could create an iTeach account to create their own syllabus, which draws upon existing open resources. It is part of an ecosystem as described by Connected learning and OPEN Media lab whilst drawing upon existing open resources such as: EduFlix and Ted of a Topic. It also relates to the delineation of education, where accreditation is separate from teaching described here separate learning from credentials and here CredEd

the quality of the iTeach, teachers, mentors, coaches could be established by the credentials which its students achieve through open accreditation. The better teachers or institutes which could arise within the ecosytem will attract more students, further enhancing their ability to provide meaningful support in an open and online world, with a possible physical connection too!

Who is your idea designed for and how does it reimagine higher education to support the needs of tomorrow?

the idea is for all educators, institutes or individuals who want to provide meaningful guidance using open resources

This idea emerged from:

  • An individual

What skills, input or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?

as always, all feedback is welcome. How would the iTeach component fit in the wider ecosystem? what would it take to establish credibility of the educators on iTeach? would the open credentialling be enough?

What early, lightweight experiment might you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?

would need to discuss with educators and students

Hi Joost,

Thank you for sharing another great idea.

I want to be 100% sure I have understood it. The teachers log into the account and use existing materials online to create their own teaching materials for the students. All the teachers do is guide the students through the process. These teachers can be anyone and they are rated on the number of sign-ups and number of students that complete the course.

Hi Kate, hope the weekend is treating you well!

yes, you got it. in complete delineation you can separate the core content from the teaching. Hence any teacher/mentor/ coach/institute can create their own programs or single courses. I believe that the accreditation which their students achieve would indicate the quality of the teaching you do. In an ideal world all is linked; the accreditation is given in badges through CredEd  :) and the badges are used during an online application further giving credibility to both the accreditation and the teacher!
