EARLY EXPOSURE AND ENGAGEMENT OF STUDENTS.
Early exposure of primary and high school students to different career paths and skills through workshops, camps and mentorship programs.
- By organizing events, camps and programmes that talk to highschool students about the experiences encountered in different career paths during their 2 month December holiday break. This will help avoid the confusion encountered by form 4 leavers during selection of university courses as they will have an idea of what each course entails.
- Using university students and postgraduates from different courses as mentors who visit highschools to share their experiences in their relevant courses. (Career days)
- Teach students, as young as primary school kids, technical skills at an early age such as programming.
- Encourage parents to motivate their kids by exposing them to online courses and practical D.I.Y. programmes at an early age hence allowing them to perfect their skills with time.
Who is your idea designed for and how does it reimagine higher education to support the needs of tomorrow?
This idea is designed for mostly highschool students, but also primary school pupils. It will reimagine higher education by providing satisfactory and qualified individuals (professionals), as they will have a lot of experience and exposure with them by the time they get to the job market.
This idea emerged from:
A group brainstorm
A Design Jam or Workshop event
What skills, input or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?
Contribution from the community on ways how this idea can be implemented as soon as possible.
What early, lightweight experiment might you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?
Gathering of fellow university students and visiting one of the local highschools to share our experiences so far from the internships we've had.
