The Yaaka Digital Learning Network (YDN) is an award winning1 digital media platform for students and trainers in university, tertiary institutions, secondary school,  to learn/train, mentor and share in academics, social and extracurricular activities of their interest, and to especially share and access digital academic materials in text, audio or audiovisual/video; as well as hold or attend classes on internet connected computers or on their mobile digital gadgets. See www.yaaka.cc/course . We have also built custom Yaaka Tablet computers that come with all courses on www.yaaka.cc  preinstalled as offline app. It is also an academic social network where students and trainers can share knowledge and participate in different forums facebook style.

Who is your idea designed for and how does it reimagine higher education to support the needs of tomorrow?

The YDN’s targets secondary school students, university students, students in tertiary institutions, and their trainers and service providers who will all benefit from this excellent online platform. We are also targeting the current employees in need of extra skills to improve their work, those with the skills that they want to share and earn from. Most learners want easy access& use source of their academic materials and a platform to explore the best materials and trainers to benefit from

This idea emerged from:

  • A group brainstorm

What skills, input or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?

We fighting for making sure that students have access to better academic content so with Yaaka Digital Network different scholars can use the platform and share different material to the learners giving knowledge on different fields. We believe have a platform with a wider range of content is good for the learners and even those who want to build on a particular skill.

What early, lightweight experiment might you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?

We have moved to schools in our community to see how the platform can impact on their education, we have had stake holder meetings with different educationists to advise on how we can improve the product to the education standards of the country and beyond. This has made us do some changes forexample for the educational tabs we had developed normal tabs that can be used as phones to but since we have secondary schools that can use the platform we had to develop different windows Yaaka Tab comput

Tell us about your work experience:

Well I and my team we journalists by profession majoring in online and Multimedia journalism thats where the design skills come from. I am an online marketer using different aspects to sell different products online,

Hi Hindu,

Thank you for sharing Yaaka.

What are the next steps for Yaaka? Can I see a demo of a Yaaka course?

Unfortunately I can't access the weblinks.

Tip: to activate links in your post, hit the Edit Contribution button at the top of your post . Scroll down to your Full Description field. Select the text you'd like to link, hit the link icon in the Rich Text Editor at the top of this field and enter your link. That way everyone will be able to check it out easily, straight from your post.

I wonder if there is a link between this idea and Kulukulu School Project and The changing face of higher education in Africa through technology.
