People are performing best if they do what they are good at. At the same time there should be a connection between what they are good at and for what there is demand on the market. And in order to make a career out of it people should be enjoying doing something, even if it just happened so that this is their natural strength. 

So the idea is to create a new approach in education which should help individuals to make their career/professional choices and thus educational preparation based on their individual strengths and passions as well as connect those to continuously developing market  needs and opportunities.

Who is your idea designed for and how does it reimagine higher education to support the needs of tomorrow?

Idea is designed for 1) young people who are at the crossroad of their educational and career choices; 2) more mature learners who would like to change or grow in their professional development;

This idea emerged from:

Thank you for sharing your idea.

Can you give me an example of how you would identify what someone was good at and what paid well? Would you take into account information on shortages in the job market e.g. a top lawyer might pay well but there aren't many vacancies and an electrician pays a lot less but there are more vacancies?

Hi Kate,

Thanks a lot for your comment! I am thinking more in a direction, that everybody is good at something. The problem often is that we don't know what we are good at and we can think that what we are good at is a too narrow, small skill that there is no real occupation for it. So, sometimes we just need inspiration to start developing the "talent seed" inside of us.
At the same time the openness of the world via the internet and social media could be a great way to open career development opportunities through 1) providing inspiration of how can people practically utilize their skills; 2) better access to the education/further development opportunities in that area; 3) give access to people who have advanced in a specific area that the person has a skill at; 4) as well via the social unions/employment centers provide insights on job openings, availability and compensations in that specific area;
For example. Lets say I am good at taking photos. With the open social network I can be inspired further on 1) how to develop my skill further; 2) how can i practically commercialize it; 3) get access to the job openings in different areas where I can apply my skill.

Hi Olga,

Perhaps you could consider strengths profiling using Gallup
Strengthfinder 2.0 or VIA Character Strengths to be aware of your
signature strengths or top 5 strengths. These profiing findings could be used as guide post to what you are good at.

Yes, exactly! Great idea! One can use these strengths profiling tools to understand the signature profiles and get inspiration for areas that individual can explore. It should be though affordable also for the younger people who are just stepping on the career path, ideally managed by their high schools to help them start exploring and understanding their strength. Though I guess it is also a thin line of not killing ones dreams and inspiration by "some" test that maybe they filled in wrong since they don't had enough experience to use for the reference yet.
