We are a community of foodies, chefs, restaurateurs, farmers, fishers, foragers, grocers, and artisan food purveyors who Crave Sustainability.
What you eat affects your health as well as the health of our planet, yet when was the last time you considered where your food came from? Or how it was grown? Or food recovery programs for food banks, animal feed to compost ? Our current food system in the USA was designed to keep overall food prices low, but it does little to support high-quality, healthy food. Absurdly, an obesity epidemic exists side-by-side with hunger and a lack of access to nutritious food.
To support a sustainable food system, PEAK PLATE overcomes two major obstacles: we connect peak-of season ingredients to chefs who then pass it on to consumers who hunger for it; and we help distribute the inordinate amount of food that is typically wasted during peak of harvest.
PEAK PLATE is the great connector. We are a lens on what matters most in the sustainable food world, and we are shining a light on the people and organizations who are doing it right.
How Does It Work?
- PEAK PLATE CHEFS CREATE FARE USING PEAK-OF-HARVEST INGREDIENTS THAT ARE SO FRESH, SO RIGHT NOW, THEY AREN'T YET ON THE PRINTED MENU.
- EACH DISH OR DRINK CREATED WITH PEAK-OF-HARVEST INGREDIENTS IS LINKED TO ITS FARMER OR SPECIALTY FOOD PURVEYOR, SO YOU CAN FOLLOW YOUR FOOD FROM FARM TO FORK. TOTAL TRANSPARENCY.
- WHAT'S MORE, PEAK PLATE SPECIALS HAVE A SUSTAINABILITY RATING TO INCLUDE FOOD WASTE RECOVERY PROGRAMS THAT HIGHLIGHT PRACTICES THAT BENEFIT OUR PLANET.
Our planet's resources are limited, but we whole heartedly believe there's no limit to the human imagination - or to our capacity to solve formidable problems. We are bold enough to believe that the food we choose to eat can change the course of our planet and we are brave enough to believe it will improve the broken food system.
"Tell me what you eat and I'll tell you what you are."

FOOD IS THE SINGLE LARGEST SOURCE OF WASTE IN THE U.S.
The equivalent of 35 million tons of food goes into American landfills every year. According to the EPA, that’s more than paper or plastic. In fact, over 50% of food produced in the U.S. is thrown out. Yet nearly 800 million people worldwide still suffer from chronic hunger.
ENDING HUNGER GLOBALLY
In September 2015, world leaders endorsed a United Nations goal to eliminate hunger globally by 2030, but experts say the only way the goal can be achieved is if people to change their eating habits. We believe what people collectively choose to eat can change the course of our planet and help feed the hungry.
A FOOD SYSTEM IS THE INTERRELATIONSHIP OF AGRICULTURAL SYSTEMS
That includes economic, social, cultural, and technological support systems, and systems of food distribution and consumption. According to the Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture (CUESA), a sustainable food system uses practices that are environmentally sound, humane, economically viable, and socially just.
