Ever notice how much time you spend sorting through the fridge to find that container of leftovers? Or the number of times you come across a container you’d forgotten about ... and that now looks like a lab experiment? No wonder, given the variety of containers we use – bags, foils, bowls –and the difficulties of organizing and finding them!

The patented Fitware™ system consists of a base container and an assortment of individual food containers which fit inside. The individual containers come in three popular sizes and snap easily onto/off the base unit so they don’t slide around. You can even buy extras if you want to be able to vary the size assortment, depending on your needs. Snap the top lid over the whole unit to seal all. Or, for really messy or smelly items, individual containers can be “double-sealed”with their own individual lids. When you need something from the fridge, just pull out one box for all your items to make or take a meal. Everything is always right there ...with no wasted time, and no lost or wasted items! Easy for clean up too. Eventually when packaged products are available to drop right in, the full meal cycle is complete and less food packaging is wasted.

What early, lightweight experiment might you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?

Focus groups, talking to others about their needs and how they manage food around multiple schedules and bringing food with. I did alot of volunteer work (some with food), raised three kids with often conflicting schedules and had to take food with to sporting events. For many years I owned a restaurant and saw how fast food was made, knowing we had nothing like it at home. In restaurants, any food wasted is money lost, they are very good at conserving and repurposing food - great for soups!

What skills, input or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?

Most importantly is to be seen and understood by others, shared in social media, along with recipes and further ideas shared. This is an expensive startup product, but once made will be found useful by many and relatively low cost after molding. The $25,000, or a large volume of interest will make a difference in achieving further financing. This product is already patented, though there are ideas that a IDEO survey group would be an excellent resource, along with credibility.

Tell us about your work experience:

My background is art and graphic design, a great skill set for all other business endeavors. In 2008, I started a restaurant with my former husband, leaving for real estate in 2011, the perfect job for creatives. As a realtor, I love to do and am very good at - seeing what is possible. On rehabs, I never tire of opening the door to one more worn property and coming up with a plan to make it home again. I do product design, space redesign, conceptualizing - thinking outside of the box.
