TRUEQUE IS A SPANISH WORD THAT REFERS TO THE ACTION OF GIVING ONE THING IN EXCHANGE OF ANOTHER, SPECIALLY WITHOUT MONEY INTERVENTION (BARTER IN ENGLISH).

TRUEQUE IS A PLATFORM THAT BOOST COMMERCE OF FRESH AND LOCAL PRODUCTS THROUGH A NEW FAIRTRADE MODEL IN WHICH THE CURRENCY IS NO LONGER MONEY. INSTEAD, YOU ARE GIVEN "NOURISHMENT CARDS" THAT ALLOW YOU TO UNDERSTAND A CHOOSE PRODUCTS IN A SMART AND SUSTAINABLE WAY. 

THE PRODUCTS OFFERED AT TRUQUE ARE SOURCED FROM LOCAL PRODUCERS WHO CANNOT ACCESS THE SUPPLY CHAIN DUE TO A LACK OF INFRASTRUCTURE, VOLUME OR QUALITY STANDARDS.  THIS REDUCES DE AMOUNT OF FOOD THAT IS WASTED BEFORE REACHING THE CONSUMERS AND AIDS THE LOCAL FARMERS TO SELL THEIR PRODUCE. 

FROM THE CONSUMER POINT OF VIEW, THIS TRIGGERS BEHAVIOURAL CHANGE AT THE TIME OF SHOPPING.  PRODUCTS ARE OFFERED IN A WAY THAT ALLOW USERS TO MATCH THEM WITH THEIR REAL NEEDS, THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT IN ORDER TO MAKE THE MOST OUT OF THEIR FOOD. 
WITHOUT MARKETING AND PRICE BOMBS, PEOPLE ARE ABLE TO TRADE SMART. 

THE FINAL OBJECTIVE IS TO GET PEOPLE TO STOP CONSUMING BY KILOGRAMS AND START DOING IT BY PORTIONS AND NUTRITIONAL REQUIREMENTS.

What early, lightweight experiment might you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?

PARTNERING WITH A LOCAL PRODUCER AND SET UP A SIMULATION AT A CLASSROOM OF THE TRUQUE METHOLOGY IN A CLASSROOM.

TRYING OUT DIFFERENT INITIAL EXCHANGE CURRENCIES: RECYCLABLES, WORK/VOLUNTEER HOURS, FOOD VOUCHERS, WORKSHOPS.

What skills, input or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?

DESIGNING THE EXCHANGE CURRENCY THAT IS REPLICABLE AMONG DIFFERENT CITIES.

Hi,
I really like your idea, it is a new model that can be taught from children to adults. I´m just wondering how are you planning that local farmer learn to use the platform and which strategy would you use to ensure the quality of products offered?

I think that this is a really great opportunity to change people's habits at the time of shopping. We are so biased by price, appearence and labels that we forget that the final goal is to nourish our body. With this in mind we can make food accesible to everyone and reduce not only food waste but also hunger and other health conditions due to malnutrition.

I love it! Great concept about changing the rules and values of exchange. I think it would definitely work, specially if we manage to address people‘s need to involve and contribute in meaningful projects and causes.
