What early, lightweight experiment might you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?

We plan to do live demos on how fruits and vegetables can be turned into Waste energy. Using the "Nairobi Fruit Festival" we can gather stakeholders from the food farming and restaurant business to showcase their goods while we provide them with solutions on food waste charcoal production. The event would run for a week to allow the wasted vegetables enough time to dry and be turned into briquettes (small charcoal chunks) and packaged for the participants.
hoping to get used to this new concept

What skills, input or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?

I got really interested with the Takachar startup and would like to work with the team that helped in the design. I have to admit that their products are catching up to the market but I feel they need a boost to reach a wider audience.
I might need graphic designs for the fruit fest itself and the design to able not to harm the environment since we will be making charcoal from food waste.
i might need social media campaigns for the same in-case we go to a crowd funding process.

Tell us about your work experience:

Thank you for sharing your idea, Mugambi!

When is the Nairobi Fruit Festival? Would you be able to tell me how the meetings with the stakeholders go?

Also, would you be able to tell me your thoughts on this idea- https://challenges.openideo.com/challenge/food-waste/ideas/simple-soil-food-and-climate-rescue-with-biochar - posted by @James Greyson ? Biochar is something I have come across in the past, but I don't have specific knowledge in this area.

still working on the official dates of the NFF launch. Looking at the stakeholders, I am abit keen on this 17 year old from Maseno, Kenya who runs a school project that turns the schools food waste to bio-gas... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziS7yYFT6jc

So Kate Rushton about the biochar as a project, I think it is worth it. its great that @james is putting used food cans to good use. try checking out more on "JIKO" from east africa. It is really practical. http://www.burnstoves.com/
