Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.
- Our family has lived in this area for almost 18 years. It provides us shelter, a living, and also energy source for us to consume, which is food. Central Java is a very crowded place, stating the fact that Java is one of the most crowded island in the world. But we actually became very much comfortable. It’s all about the welcoming presence and ambiance that this area has to offer to our family. We select Central Java because it has so many potentials, we could develop new ideas and help the society to have a better concept of futuristic food in the future, and to consume them as well. Our home city, Semarang is full of adventurous and open minded people, ready to have a significant change in their lives. People here loves being challenged and if we give them our future food's vision, they will be intrigued.
Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.
Central Java is known as the heart of Javanese culture, and that means a lot since Java has a lot of culture and traditions. It consists of 5 residencies; Semarang, Pati, Kedu, Banyumas, and Pekalongan. Semarang is the capital of Central Java region. Being in the country of Indonesia, it has 2 seasons, rainy and dry seasons. The temperature varied but rarely extreme, usually it's either warm or cool.
Our main industries includes Agriculture , Manufacturing industries , and trading. Having said that, Central Java is quite a busy area, but it's still somehow doesn't fully reach at the peak of its potential, at least not yet.
Many people here are hoping that we can live with hygiene, and in order to do that we need to control our disposal and our habits of throwing away waste arbitrarily.

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.
A. The current challenges:
We haven’t yet discover the way of preserving our everyday food to last almost up to decades even up to hundreds of years. Our idea is to get the technology and the technique of our fellow honeybees, the scientists of the nature. We know that bees has a very specialized enzymes and processes that can turn flower nectar into a bacterial free and non expiring sugar blocks, or sugar liquid which we named honey.
B. The future challenges:
We need to find a way somehow that after we have acknowledged the bee’s technique and has successfully transferred such complicated process to make our everyday food, to be tasty or appealing to the people and to the eye of the society. We might have to convince them that our product are far better than regular food that which is not constructed by using the bee’s technique. Some people might not interested in our products and prefer the old fashioned way of simple food, food that still has a very short amount of time before it goes to waste, for whatever the reasons. Example: they might afraid that it contains too much factory ingredients and consider the products to be unhealthy, that it contains too much chemicals.

A. How to address the current challenges:
We will use Biotechnology as our main asset and main weapon. Scientists all around the area and perhaps using our modern world communication distribution, using internet and such, scientists all around the world will contribute to make our vision a reality. Together, we can unveil the bee’s technique to make our everyday food lasts so much longer. The food results will be not much different from the original, it will still have the same taste, texture, smell, and molecular properties. The only major difference would be the expiration dates.
B. How to address the future challenges:
We can use some sort of apps or source of information to announce and notify people of the area, and using our social media communication, possibly letting people all around the world know about our inventions. They will be educated about our long lasting food products, and hopefully they will start consume them as their daily food. This expectantly will start a chain reaction of people noticing and consuming our food inventions, and hopefully we will end the humanity’s era of unnecessary food waste.
High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.
First of all, people in our residence tends to love traditional foods, unfortunately many of these foods expire within a few days. Now we cannot just make all these people turn around from their traditional meal and make them choose a longer lasting food (for example cheese).
What we can do is to make these traditional food to lasts longer, so that the outcome of possibly wasting such food because it went bad will be minimized to the lowest point. Using the bee's technique, we can turn these food into last so much longer.
Now as we have stated before, some people may resist, they will choose the "healthier" option, even though actually our products are technically safer, because there will almost be no bacteria in it. Well, let's just say they will say their original traditional food "fresher". With the help of some sort of apps we can inform them about these facts.
hopefully in a span time of less than a year, all of people in our residence will be informed, and preferably choose our products.
Now what about the economy? What about people that usually sells a traditional food? Well they can develop a connection between the scientists, or even better the distributors, so that they will be making traditional food from non expiring ingredients.
All of these scenarios doesn't just work with traditional foods, it can be applied in any sorts of food, at least for now we can hope for the best.
Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?
Our intentions of prolonging the food expiration date has come a long way, since it is not uncommon that people throw and dispose perfectly whole foods which actually has only been slightly touched, just because it goes bad. We wanted to stop these habits permanently, we wanted to truly maximize the preservation of food.
People will no longer need to worry about their food products to go bad therefore waste their food. So will the world soon, because food waste is one of the world’s most vital problems that we should solve. Doing so, we wouldn’t need to double our resources to feed the mouth of 10 billion people in the future, because we won’t be discarding any of our goods anymore.
The concept base is to make a whole food, for example a hamburger but instead of expiring in a bout a week or so, it will expire so much longer ( if we could make it last as long as honey, it would be decades or even hundreds of years). How? We take the ingredient of a burger, for example a lettuce and using our biotechnology use bee's enzymes and processes to create an almost bacterial free dish, that we can consume anytime at the time span of years.
About how we can intersect and align all of these with a complete understanding of policy, economics, and such must require further studies and researches. We would be needing more time to evaluate.
The part where we solve our residence's problem and boosting the preservation to help our area reduce waste is only just the beginning.
Yes, our ideas hasn't been fully compromised yet, but if this idea succeeded we would be solving 2 problems at once, how to feed 10+ billion of people, and how to reduce waste not just in my area, but also quite possibly the whole world.
our vision wouldn't be done in just overnight, but it may very well be in decades, when the future needs us.
Some of the world's top visionaries even expect that scientists are one of the main resource that will be the key to our future, the future of humanity. And in this case, the future of food.
