Accra is the capital city of Ghana and has a total area that is 225.67 km^2 (87.13 sq mi)

What country is your selected Place located in?
Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.
Accra was selected because as the capital, it is the most cosmopolitan city in Ghana and the fruits and vegetable acquisition and consumption is very high here. however, the fruits and vegetables when they get here do not last long and they start deteriorating. living here almost all my life, i have appreciated the level at which food is consumed quickly for the fear of losing them due to poor storage or expensive storage facilities. when in bumper harvest, town folks fear to buy in bulk because eventually they would lose them even before consumption.

due to the cosmopolitan nature, there are more than 20 ethnic groups across and beyond Ghana living in Accra and the influence of the western culture has had a slight change in culture especially with food the people eat. Originally, the inhabitants of Accra are the Gas and Adangbes whose main dishes are Kenkey( made with fermented corn dough) and fried fish with goes with pepper and vegetable sauce. however the local ghanaian does not go a day without vegetables .
located close to the equator, Accra is usually endowed with high temperatures which averages 26.6 °C. In a year, the average rainfall is 809 mm.
Accra is the capital, the largest city, and the administrative, communications, and economic center of Ghana. Located on the Gulf of Guinea near the Atlantic Ocean, the city sits partly on a cliff, 25 to 40 feet (eight to 12 meters) high, and spreads north over the Accra plains.
Ghana, formerly the British colony of the Gold Coast, assumes a special prominence as the first African country to acquire independence from European rule. Ghanaian politicians marked this important transition by replacing the territory's colonial label with the name of a great indigenous civilization of the past. While somewhat mythical, these evocations of noble origins, in combination with a rich cultural heritage and a militant nationalist movement, have provided this ethnically diverse country with unifying symbols and a sense of common identity and destiny. Over forty years of political and economic setbacks since independence have tempered national pride and optimism. Yet, the Ghanaian people have maintained a society free from serious internal conflict and continue to develop their considerable natural, human, and cultural resources.
Agriculture and aquaculture used to be the main work of the people which is actively dwindling to the mercies of white collar jobs. however about 30% are still actively engaged.
the people are welcoming and welcome all sorts of diets as well, in fact willing to try new things
What is the estimated population (current 2020) in your Place?
Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.
Environment: the city faces a dwindle in the agricultural sector due to preference for white collar jobs. many farm lands are also being converted to estates and industries.
diets: more preference is given to foreign food than local ones and it looks like food pattern over the years are going to change
Economics: as a middle income country with a minimum wage about $2 which is expected to increase, the cost of living also increases steadily
Culture: maintenance of certain cultural values are one of the most difficult aspects here since we easily adapt to western culture
Technology: technology is one thing Ghanaian easily embrace and by 2050, i do not see lack of technology being a problem

our vision combines all the elements stated above and will implement them to make agriculture very profitable and lucrative so that more youth will be able to participate. we do understand how trends work here in Ghana and if it does not go the way the people want them , it is easily rejected.
High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.
people will now be able to engage in agriculture as before knowing they are not going to bear a lot of risks as before, this is also going to improve the economy and respond to the diet changes as well as affect policies.
Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?
working at the post harvest space of the agricultural value chain,we seek to bridge the gap between farmers and consumers where each and every stakeholder will be satisfied. our product has little to no harm against the environment. food wastage is reduced as well in order to meet the growing population
