Lead Applicant: In what city or town are you located?

Lead Applicant: In what country are you located?

Your Selected Place: what’s the name of the Place you’re developing a Vision for?

My selected places are scattered over the 3 Geo political zones in Nigeria where there are farming communities. The total area 90,763 km²

What country is your selected Place located in?

Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.

I selected Nigeria because i grew up here and understand the people so well. Nigeria is important to me because its my country and every day i see farmers suffer huge losses because of avoidable mistakes they make. I am so connected to farmers in Nigeria because my late  father was an Agriculturist and would take me to his Cassava plantation at very tender age.

Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.

Nigeria is a very nice country and the farming communities are not left out. The inhabitants are Nigerians who speak  their native dialect but can also speak English. Nigerian general food is very accommodating and everyone would like it. The sun could be a little harsh but most cars and houses have air conditioners.Nigerian government is greatly focusing on Agriculture because they want to they want to shift the countries dependency to Non Oil Exports, the government recently banned importation of rice to encourage indigenous farmers and this has really helped. The general Nigerian population has recently become very health sensitive when it comes to our diet because people are more enlightened.

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.

The current challenges facing our food system in Nigeria with regards to the environment is that a lot of agricultural farm produce are allowed to waste due to improper food packaging and handling, this causes a lot of pollution and environmental hazards.

As a result of this farm produce losses due to waste the economy is affected. Our Gross Domestic Product (GDP) value is greatly reduced.

Technology is also a huge challenge facing our food system.not that the machines are not available but they are very expensive.

Address the Challenges: Describe how your Vision will address the challenges described in the previous question.

Looking at my local market, the amount of vegetables they pour into the drainage on a daily basis brings tears to my eye. This vegetable waste is as a result of poor packaging because they pack vegetables in sack bags and they get heated up in transit. Our vision would address this by working with farmers directly and teaching them the proper packaging materials to use like perforated cartoons instead of sack bags.

If eventually they don't sell off, we buy it off them and pelletize into livestock feed or dehydrate to increase the shelf live.

High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.

Nigeria would be a better place to live in,because the environment would no longer be littered with waste. Our drainages would not be blocked and roads blocked causing untold hardship and traffic jams. The economy would boom because we would have enough to eat, feed our live stocks and export.

Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?

Our vision is to add value to the agricultural food chain, with focus on packaging and processing.
