Kuching is the capital of Sarawak which located in Malaysia. Sarawak is part of Borneo. Kuching is enjoyed city which consists amazing people, food, and environment and according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia, Kuching division population was about 705,546 in 2010. It is a small city but well preserved and very compact since there are still many fine examples of colonial-style architecture.

Meanwhile, Kuching is such an important place since it is very strategic and beautiful place to visit in Borneo. Other than that, it is important due to the environment, economic and culture. Usually in Kuching, the food industries are still in small coverage but it got a lot of traditional food which supported by the Small Medium Enterprise (SME). It really helps the growth of economy in Kuching since KOBIS established social enterprise in Sarawak which provides a platform for youth development based on the concept of youth, for the youth and by the youth where the youth are able to solve problems and create opportunities for local community. It is dedicated to promote and realize high-impact activities in line with the taste of today's youth. We advocate immense participation in youth development agenda, and fostering and building dynamic and innovative Sarawak youth

We want to envision a community where everyone has access to good quality healthy and nutritious food also understands the concerns of hunger and is obligated to create a better healthier world. Since Kuching is not advanced like other cities in the world, there are certain peoples in Kuching cannot afford to find nutritious food for their family. By developing the vision for Kuching in terms of the food vision system, it much helps the needy. The system might be consist of the technology that makes it easier to do something about the resources.

Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.

There are several special ethnicities other than Malay, Chinese, and Indian in Sarawak such as Melanau, Dayak Iban, Dayak Bidayuh and Dayak Orang Ulu. Some of the major tribes making up the Orang Ulu group include Kayan, Lun Bawang, Kelabit, Kenyah, Penan, and Sebob/Chebob. Since Kuching is the city of Sarawak, some of the ethnicities migrate to the city and we are living in multi-ethnics.

The place is beautiful and is a focal point of the city. The existence of the river makes Kuching is very unique. Hiring a sampan to meander slowly up and down the Sarawak River is the best way to get your first impression of Kuching. Besides, there are Malay villages (kampungs) near the river. Kuching as a warm sunny city got a whole street of 19th-century Chinese shophouses and an imposing wooden-roofed palace. Besides, the new floating mosque near the waterfront attracts many people especially tourists.

Kuching, the place that famous with Laksa Sarawak and Kolok Noodle. Other than that, kuih bongkol is best and the most delicious kueh in Kuching. Kueh means cake in Malaysia. The most exotics food is Ulat Mulong or Sago Worm.

Our hope is to maintain the diversity of culture, ethnics, food, and environment in Kuching so that our new generations can see the bright future also feel the homeland of Kuching. Next is, having a better healthy food supply.

The main effect of diets on the health of the population in Kuching is, increase a better lifestyle in Kuching. For instance, there is high calories in Laksa Sarawak and if people in Kuching consume it in a better way, it can reduce the risk of having obesity, diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases.

What is the estimated population (current 2020) in your Place?

570407

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.

In 2050, we will have more franchises in our country. As we can see in our generation now (2020) a lot of franchise is growing more and more and bring a lot of diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Because of too many franchise open in our country nowadays such as McDonald’s and KFC that can easily make people become fat or unhealthy, there will have a lot of weight loss pills or medication in our country make a lot of people didn’t want to do exercise and expect pills or medication can make them lose their weight quickly. There will be many unlicensed dietary supplements by 2050 to gain money.

Economies in 2020 are very good in our country because now we can deliver our food and make an income easily. Besides, we also can easily find a place to meet our friends such as a milk tea shop and McDonald’s. But in 2050, some of the franchises maybe will suffer losses because we will have a lot of beverage shops and franchises at the same location, and people will compare the price and the taste.

Traditional food is very famous in 2020 such as Kek Lapis (Layer Cake) and Penganan, all of our traditional food is made by locals, and the price is very cheap. In 2050, our traditional food will become expensive and maybe the factory will replace locals to do traditional food and the taste not the same as the original.

Address the Challenges: Describe how your Vision will address the challenges described in the previous question.

Our vision is, we envision a community where healthy and nutritious food, and it is obligated to create a better healthier world.

With the vision, it helps to create a better imagination food system towards the future. Let say so many franchises will be built in 2050, with a healthy and nutritious food campaign in 2020 that will create awareness towards the young generation. Next, our concern towards hunger. It is important for those people who don’t afford to buy food in 2050. The innovation of organic food needs to be an invention to help more hunger. Technology perspectives such as vitals in terms of food innovation.

We try to collaborate with other agencies, together we make a better future for the food vision.

High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.

In 2050, more places in Kuching will be more modern but the old buildings need to preserve for the new generation. The more modern the place, the better the infrastructure. The food system getting advance according to the change of time. People in Kuching also live in modern life. All those technologies taking over everything. People more concerned about what they eat if the vision is clear. A good and clear vision helps people aware of the food system.
