Cattle pasture at Chamberlin Farms. This is our White Park bull we have an all grass fed beef herd. In addition to our cattle we use the natural fertilizer they create to compost and place in our soil to grow vegetables.

Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.
As a retired military veteran, I learned to appreciate the simple things in life. I also believe everything happens for a reason, this place found me. I have traveled to many countries and have seen many things, this place helped me find a peace that had been lacking during my career. Working the land and being the caretaker of my animals and the land has afforded me the opportunity to cultivate a relationship with people in the local community and help them see the beauty of the countryside and farming.
Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.
Quiet rural setting in the country with mountains for a backdrop. Lush green fields and quality soil for growing vegetables and nourishing fruit bearing trees/shrubs. Friendly rural farmers, mostly producing timothy/grass hay for Dairy cows and corn. For the most part the local community keeps to themselves shops at the local grocery store and eats "modern american food", this is what are vision wants to change, by inviting the community to grow fresh food and build camaraderie. Create a local farmers market for sharing of goods, produce, information, and friendship. Allowing community members without access to land or knowledge of growing, an opportunity to be able to do both at our farm. We have 45 acres of land that we can utilize for our vision.

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.
We face economic and environmental challenges. Economically trying to implement our plan has been difficult because we want to be able to get people started without any expense to themselves initially, we have had setbacks with maintenance issues on our farm. The environment offers a second challenge because some of the areas on the farm have had improper drainage and the snow and rain has saturated a few of our growing fields, we have to implement a drainage system to allow for usability for growing. Future challenges will depend on community commitment and economic stability in our area. We are located in a right to farm area but we could be faced with the challenge of city expansion and being rezoned for other purposes by 2050 however it is highly unlikely.
Address the Challenges: Describe how your Vision will address the challenges described in the previous question.
Our vision will incorporate a new drainage system that will supply natural water to the areas we will be growing in, we will be asking the community to invest time and labor to help build the community food farm, while offering food, knowledge, entertainment, and camaraderie in return. We will talk with local businesses/vendors to see if any would be willing to donate materials to our project. We will hold raffles to ease the economic burden of offering growing areas to community members at no cost to them. Although we cannot control the county government decisions directly, we can definitely influence them by voting, signing petitions and educating them on what our community program is doing to keep our vision flourishing in the future.
High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.
A thriving community that will have food available to them in tough economic and environmental times because they will have learned a skill to provide for themselves while building a relationship with their neighbors. Communities historically have come together in tough times and this will provide an added element of learning to help one another on a regular basis without the burden of catastrophic events. Teaching people that the majority are good, honest, hard working citizens even with all the negativity seen/heard through TV/internet. Getting people back to the outdoors and seeing the beauty of the land and developing healthy relationships with the land, food, and community can benefit all involved. One of our goals is to involve more people in agriculture to create a healthy rural environment and stimulate the economy and increase food supply to be able to meet the future demand for food in 2050. Small community farms can help offset this burden by allowing people to grow their own food and teaching them how to grow food in different settings.
Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?
Our Community Rooted vision in agricultural production will help alleviate economic burden by allowing families in the community to grow their own food. By growing their own food they will learn how to be caretakers of the land and be environmental stewards ensuring the future availability of healthy land for future generations. Our vision includes incorporating students from local schools to be a part of the community growing, not only will it teach them better diet choices by choosing what foods to grow, but it will give them a sense of accomplishment. Obesity in the US is growing concern, and providing fresh food while working outdoors helps decrease overweight issues. By creating a community food farm we can learn about our neighbors and the different cultures that live among us and learn to appreciate the value of diversity. Building camaraderie and lasting community relationships will encourage people to help one another in all times not just bad times. We would also encourage the donation of any extra food to the school or any family that was unable to participate in our growing program because this would decrease waste and show the generosity of our program and encourage others to participate. A strong community would help determine future policy for our county by coming together to educate county officials on our issues and resources. Providing effective solution's to community based problems. With the way the population is growing by 2050, food production as it is currently being performed, will not be able to keep up, our vision will provide an example to be followed for people to learn how to come together to grow their own food and relieve the burden from "Big Agriculture". As our community growing food vision increases we will incorporate technological advances to increase our food production through the use of artificial intelligence to continue growing in winter months in high tunnels/greenhouses by monitoring artificial sunlight and moisture content. We could use drones as well to decrease pest destruction of food crops.
