Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.

am a nurse by profession, farmer by passion and early stage community change maker in the field ofsocial entrepreneurship working to ensure rural farmers earn maximally from what they produce through100% sale of fresh farm produce with kids in slum areas having no starvation and microstavation throughsimplified access to affordable and healthy fresh farm produce. These through my founded venture inuaslice foods which aggregate deselected fresh farm produce which accounts for 60% total rural produce, webuy, slice and conservatively pack these and deliver them directly to slums as affordable safe food thusincreasing farmers revenue through zero waste and increasing affordable safe food access to far 100+ tonnes have being delivered. I serve as a leader in inua damsite cbo where i work asproduction lead ,through these we have being able to reach out to 700 farmers in affordable localized freesoil testing for increased produced & are targeting 20000 more in the next 6 months.these through amobile soil kit i bootstrapped over 2 years from local partners and friends . My passion is having ahealthy community through safe& affordable nutrition in slums&arid areas but with improved lives torural farmers who actively works in production. The best way is by eliminating food waste which takesupto 2/3 of total rural produce while 40 millions are food insecure in east africa alone

Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.

60% of total produce for poor small scale farmers in nyandarua was rejected in mass market due to low quality, small sizes and irregular shapes. This led to high poverty level among farmers. In bid to increase the visual sizes of the yields, poor farmers started using poor quality, cheap farm inputs in which they over-used leading to poor soil and some of the produced food was unsafe for consumption. Others used sewer line for farming which lead to health problems after consumption especially with raw-eaten vegetables. over-spraying crops with herbicides sprays which were cheaply gotten from market or use sewer line to farm. These made the produced food unsafe for consumption as it lead to food poisoning.with the 70% of population in these area living below poverty line, more than 200000 are affected amd do not benefit from overall good climate condition in the region.

What is the approximate size of your Place, in square kilometers? (New question, not required)

What is the estimated population (current 2020) in your Place?

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.

High post harvest food wastage in rural region of deselected food quality though

safe which accounts for 40% of total food produced.these leads to high poverty

among poor farmers whose produce is rejected and low availability, of safe

affordable food to people in slums and arid areas.

80% of total food in Kenya is Produced by small scale farmers.due to ineffective

farming methods, use of low quality inputs, production per unit area is very

poor.small scale farmers depends on rural brokers for bulking and market

access.due to selectivity of mass market which is more visusl based,40% of total

produce is deselected as unsalable quality(small size or irregular shaped). small

scale farmers live in absolute poverty with only 1/10 making profit.with delivery

system of food from brokers -mass market-retail to consumer taking long

time, fresh food availability in slums is rare with those available being too

expensive to cover costs and loses.70% of Urban vegetables was declared unfit

as farmers over spray in a bid to increase sizes to match market big size and

visual requirement.

in Kenya there are>3million poor smalscale farmers suffering from high post

harvest wastages with over 8 millions Kenyans facing starvation.with amount

wasted according to world Bank being $4billion,3times amount required to feed

the suffering starving population

Address the Challenges: Describe how your Vision will address the challenges described in the previous question.

Inua slice foods is a for profit for impact venture working to ensure maximum

profitability among poor small scale farmers in Kenya through ensuring zero

waste and total sale of all farmers produce matched with easily accessible and

affordable sliced farm produce to slum dwellers.we aggregate unsalable quality

from poor farmers ,slice to cooking size, brine and pack in conservative modified

atmospheric packaging bags(for extend life of upto 40 days) and deliver directly

to consumer schools and slum mama bogas.through these,we assure market to

poor farmers produce thus increased revenue.slum dwellers get access to safe

fresh food with retailers avoiding food waste that occur when she source

overstayed food from wholesale markets.with farmers assured of

markets, oversoraying and use of sewer for big sized vegetable will decrease

making urban vegetables safe and healthyto

High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.

To ensure easy access of safe affordable fresh farm produce to

poor people living in urban slums in kenyan capital

 To ensure maximum profitability among poor smallscale farmers in

rural kenya by eliminating post harvest wastage which occur due to

deselection of unwanted food quality(small sized and irregular shaped

horticulture produce ) when traded via mass market.these account for

40% of total poor farmers produce in our beachhead market

 Reduce hyper spraying and use of sewer line for food production in a

bid to produce big appealing vegetables hence contributing to safe

food production (80% of food in Nairobi was declared unsafe due to

highresidue and microbial contamination)

Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?

by saving food waste, we reduce the amount of methane that is produced by rotting food in garden, these helps in reducing the rate at which global warming is occurring at .air and water pollution that occur during runoff is reduced. with assured sales , farming with sewer to produce appeasing food reduces, these will increase food safety, apart from these, slice food packages food in safe mode eliminating contamination during transportation.

farmers sells all their produce, these ensures livelihood improvement and maximum profitability.
