Lead Applicant: In what city or town are you located?

Ozoro town, Isoko North Local Government, Delta state,

Lead Applicant: In what country are you located?

Your Selected Place: what’s the name of the Place you’re developing a Vision for?

Ozoro town which is project site, is a semi urban town located in Delta state, Niger Delta region of Nigeria with a total area of 19000 km2.

What country is your selected Place located in?

Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.

Ozoro the project site is a place I grew up as a young adult. It is selected to be the project site because when compared to other cities and towns within the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, Ozoro is more peaceful without much flooding challenge like other major towns and cities within the region. Ozoro town also willingly agree to collaborate through the provision of land-(ten hectares) to host this project in order to attract development to the community. Also, since there are no public industries by government situated in this area, this project serve as a unique enterprise to create jobs and income opportunities for the people. From this community, we could easily mobilize a cluster of small holders fish, vegetable and fruit farmers as beneficiaries to this project as well as have easy access to other Niger Delta communities and regions of Nigeria.

Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.

Ozoro community , is a semi urban city with a very fast growing population due to the location of the Delta state Polytechnic, Ozoro campus and nearness to the Delta state University, Abraka.. In terms of whether and industrial conditions, Ozoro's whether condition is quite fair and good for farming but there is virtually no industries located in the town either by the state or federal government of Nigeria. Most people especially adults living in Ozoro city are mostly teachers and civil servants working in the local government council. Though there are also traders and peasant farming communities. Going by the increasing population, there is generally shortage of food and feeding materials especially for infants, nursing mothers and growing children. The lack of industries for meaningful and decent works also leading to high poverty, hunger and unemployment levels hence injustics and violent extremism are frequently seen as it is common with most cities around the Niger Delta region and Nigerian North Eastern region.

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.

The challenge of malnutrition due to poor economic situation around the Niger Delta region has been reported as the highest in Nigeria as compared to other regions. And this has been made complicated by environmental degradation by oil exploitation and exploitation that made the area to be unsuitable for agricultural activities. Hence, these major challenges has lead to the chronic problems of Poverty, Hunger,Malnutrition, Unemployment, injustices and Violent extremism by the virtually idle youths and women. Thus, to solve these problems and challenges, we though it wise to research and innovate on a system of domestic aquaculture through the Patented Hetaved Organic Floating Fish Feed to empower the people in a communal aquaculture and aquaponic farming. Through this project, many of the idle youths and women could be gainfully engage to produce or market fish products and vegetables and fruits to solve the challenges of poverty, hunger, malnutrition and restiveness with social vices due to idleness and the lack of economic projects for income and jobs in the area. So also, this project now solve the problem of the high cost of obtaining the the foreign made and imported floating fish feeds which has been the bane of domestic aquaculture in Nigeria and Africa. Now, small holders farmers can be engaged in aquaculture while at the same place and spot be involved in profitable aquaponic farming to produce fish and food for their immediate need and outside market.

Address the Challenges: Describe how your Vision will address the challenges described in the previous question.

Our project simply, AQUACULTURE and AQUAPONIC farming system is capable of tackling most of the Economic, Social and Environmental challenges being experienced by the people and communities around the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Through a modern system of aquaculture and hydroponic farming in a communal way through private and public partnership, the problems of chronic poverty, hunger, malnutrition, social injustice and restiveness among the youths and women around the Niger Delta region in general and Ozoro community in Delta state could be greatly curtailed. This is so because through our unique innovation and intervention of empowering small holders farmers with the HETAVED ORGANIC FLOATING FISH FEEDS and practical training, mentoring and empowerment via Aquaculture and Aquaponics farmy system and technology, the people can have access to income and economic opportunities, quality and nutritive feeding stuff as well as a means of improving their livelihood and self esteems. It is hope that by 2050, this project would serve as a global reference point that could be replicated in other part of the world in line with the 2030 UN Agenda and the 2063 Africa Union Developmental Agenda. Yes! Fish and food in a qualitative and quantitative manner from aquaculture and aquaponics farming by mobilizing small holders farmer, makes all the differences.. Another positive dimension also is that this system has the capacity and potentials to mitigate against climate change issues due to the fact that our production is 100 percent organic and biodegradable without gaseous emission.. Recycling of organic wastes is the technology behind this innovative approach to farming through aquaculture and aquaponic/hydroponic techniques.

High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.

First, with this system fully implemented, there would be resilience among the people to both diseases cause by malnutrition, poverty and environmental related crises. Secondly, there world be massive reduction in the rate of poverty and hunger among the people. Still, with improvements in the sources of income and employment, the standard of living among the people shall be drastically be raised to improve their self esteems. Thirdly, there shall be improvement in school performance by children which before now were affected by malnutrition and poor feeding. Also, the effect and results of this project shall lead to relative peace for sustainable development due to the idle youths and women now being engaged through Aquaculture and Aquaponics systems and technology. We are very sure and hopeful, through this unique approach, we can have peaceful, fair and inclusive society especially within Ozoro community, Delta state and the Niger Delta region and Nigeria and entire Africa. Thus, we can achieve the SDGs and the vision 2030 through aquaculture and aquaponics systems for small holder farmers . Please kindly refer to and or

Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?

Our project the HETAVED ORGANIC GARDEN AND AQUACULTURE VILLAGE concept, with the mtto: FEEDING THE FISH TO FEED THE WORLD , as designed and being implemented has the potentials to bring about massive economic, social and environmental transformation in line with the UN 2030 Agenda. Economically, it serves as a source of immediate income thereby contributing to the social status and resilience of the people and community. Technological wise, the project has a simple technology of converting and recycling organic wastes into quality fish feeds to help small holders fish farmers venture into profitable aquaculture. And the resultant wastes from aquaculture is now being used through aquaponics farming to produces crops- fruits, vegetables and staple crops for food and economic value. Simply put, it is FISH and FOOD for the common man. This system also enable healthy environment without air pollution since all stages and materials involved in the production process are organic and 100 percent degradable. This project concept can be easily scaled up to other communities around the Niger Delta region, other parts of Nigeria and regions of Africa towards poverty, hunger, malnutrition , injustices and restiveness eradication among the people., Through this Food System Vision Prize , we are ready to scale up with capable manpower, and full scale commercial production to empower more small holders farmers for economic and social status transformation through Aquaculture and Aquaponics farming. And again, this project has the potential also to revolutionize maize farming and processing since the raw materials for the organic floating fish feeds formulation are gotten from maize by-products which are normally discarded as wastes. Thus, food from maise, fish proteins and nutrients from vegetable farming and processing could be catalyze through this project thereby ending hunger and poverty with chronic malnutrition from among the people. Our research and invention has been secured through a Patent Right lenience as attached. We have carried out our experiments and analysis of the Phytochemical, proximate and quantitative components of the key raw materials and all proven positive with 100 percent environmental friendly. The products have been well received by the users and is regarded as a needed breakthrough for a revolution in aquaculture. This product is the surest way out for profitable aquaculture because of the high cost of obtaining the foreign made and imported floating fish feeds which has caused most small holders and commercial fish farms to have closed up along the years. But here, is the game changer to stimulate aquaculture business with added innovation of aquaponics farming. Yes! we can produce and provide Fish as protein and food for human survival at the barest minimal cos and easily adaptable technology., Again, refer to the book: AQUACULTURE IN A BOX MADE EASY as published and available at:, It is good also to note here that this project has another component simply tittled: THE HETAVED FARMACY, which has to do with Cultivating, Processing, and Preparing Food with nature considerations. This could be accessed at: Above all, our project has been endorsed among the MEANINGFUL BUSINESS 100 FOR THE UN SDGs and 2030 AGENDA at:
