93,131 km²

What country is your selected Place located in?

Nigeria

Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.

My Grandparents lived there as well as I spent my service year serving my country here.

Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.

This is located in the North western part of Nigeria with a population strength of approximately 35,794,944 with the dominant occupation of 90% as farming. 70% of food grown in the country is grown in this region, with residents living a communal life.

What is the estimated population (current 2020) in your Place?

17500000

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.

With the continuous rise in population and increase in the demand for urbanization, there is an uprising in the demand for healthy grown food yet little attention is given to the primary producers, this in turn reduces the quality of food grown which by extension affects the quality of our diet.

In addition to the above, as a result of the little attention given to the primary producers, some of the farm inputs in terms fertilizers are of low quality, hence depleting the soil and environment.

As a result of the challenges faced by the rural small holder farmer, there exist a vicious cycle of poverty faced by the rural small holder farmer that keeps them below the international poverty line irrespective of the fact that they remain the primary food producers.

Address the Challenges: Describe how your Vision will address the challenges described in the previous question.

Leveraging on technology web and app platform by connecting the rural farmer who enjoys doing the field work but has limited resources to the Individual who has the resources but wouldn’t want to get dirty, to successfully cultivate the farm (crop/animal) of choosing.

With this, we successfully can provide the rural small holder farmer with access to new and improved methods of cultivation to improve the quality of food produced, enable the rural small holder farmer to get access to credit in form of seeds in improved varieties and fertilizers to increase productivity. In addition to the above, with our technology driven platform we provide a ready market for the farmer to liquidate his product after harvest.

High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.

To begin, because the prevalent source of livelihood in this region is agriculture, the production output per hectare would increase with the quality of the soil being protected which would lead to a higher level of income for the rural small holder farmer, this by extension improves the standard of living of the farmer as he gets a better reward for his service.

Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?
