How long have you / your team been working on this Vision?

  • Just beginning now

Lead Applicant: In what city or town are you located?

Ombi II, Lafia

Lead Applicant: In what country are you located?

Your Selected Place: what’s the name of the Place you’re developing a Vision for?

Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Shabu-Lafia Campus has a total land mass of 216 hectares but only 6 hectares will be developed

What country is your selected Place located in?

Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.

My place of work (Lecturing) since February 6, 2008 (13 years) so, I am very familiar with the terrain

Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.

Lafia is located within the north central zone of Nigeria on latitude 08o35ꞋN, longitude 08o34ꞋE with an altitude of 181m above sea level, temperature ranges from 32 to 35oC, relative humidity between 58 and 63%, average day light of 9 to 12h and average rainfall of 1, 400mm per annum. The vegetation consists of different species of trees, shrubs, leguminous browse plants and grasses with fairly undulated terrain. Lafia is a collecting point for sesame seeds, soybeans and a trading centre for yams, sorghum, millet, and cotton. Besides farming, cotton weaving and dyeing are traditionally important activities of the town's inhabitants. Livestock farming is also a prominent activity especially among the Fulani herdsmen. There are assorted solid minerals in Lafia hence the christened "Home of solid minerals"

What is the approximate size of your Place, in square kilometers? (New question, not required)

What is the estimated population (current 2020) in your Place?

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.

The Moringa plant will provide a niche in the ecosystem thereby enhancing the environmental condition. The combination of honey, Moringa and poultry meat and eggs will improve the diets and healthy condition of the students. At graduation the students will be better empowered economically than those that did not go to school or dropped out. Since the students are from different background, there might be cross-culture relationship among them resulting in more peaceful society. This system will result in novel technological processing of products that are nutritious and medicinal thus improve the policy formulation for better living conditions in the area. All these will culminate in high school enrollment and well-reduced school dropout thus, supplemental school feeding may increase school enrollment and reduce school dropout.

Address the Challenges: Describe how your Vision will address the challenges described in the previous question.

Provision of nutritious and medicinal Moringa plant, honey, poultry meat and eggs during school hour

High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.

High literacy among the people resulting in "elites climes" with high level man-power development and self-sufficiency with little or no dependency.

Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?

With 4 hectare Moringa plantation alone the environment will be green with enough nectar for bee hive activities. Combination of these farming system will improve the diets quality. With improved rate on literacy, the people will be economically buoyant. As students from different background, there will be cross-culture that will build a more peaceful society. This multiple farming practice will lead to improved technology and enhanced policy formulation
