Lead Applicant: In what city or town are you located?

Lead Applicant: In what country are you located?

Your Selected Place: what’s the name of the Place you’re developing a Vision for?

Doichang Mountain, ChiangRai Northern of Thailand in the area of 30000 Rai (48 square kilometers)

What country is your selected Place located in?

Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.

Beginning in 2012, Doi Chaang is a place where I got the impression of the landscape. Beautiful, high mountains, cool weather Akha coffee growers are diligent but unfortunately. Popular coffee-growing industry This place is about to destroy a beautiful ecosystem while creating a risk of contamination of dangerous chemicals. In the coffee that we drink So I started to persuade and work with Akha farmers who grow Arabica coffee by talking and inviting them to change from chemical cultivation to stop using chemicals by creating relationships at a reasonable price. Satisfied farmers In order to have motivation Will make a difference in the food chain that is safe for all involved.

Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.

Doi Chang Village ''Doi'' in Thailand means mountain. Doichang Village to Chiang Rai City is located in Wawee Sub-district, Mae Suai District, Chiang Rai Province, Northern of Thailand at an altitude between 1,000 - 1,700 meters above average sea level. Rich in soil, Plenty of Natural Mountain Water resources, Cool Climate throughout the year. With the Area 30000 rai Doi chang Originally was the address of the Hmong hill tribe people. Due to the internal war of Myanmar, Later in the year 2458 Lisu people have migrated to set up Doi Chang village and the year 1983 Akha hill-tribe people came to live in village and living by farming And planting Opium for subsistence. Now the population in the area consists of Akha hill tribe people, Lisu, &China Yunnan, more than 1,000 families together, most of them grown Arabica Coffee In 1983 King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama 9, to improve people's livelihoods and reduce the illicit cultivation of drugs in the Mountain area of Northern Thailand, hill tribe farmers were encouraged to grow winter plants rather than opium, such as Plum fruits, Cherry Plum, Persimmon fruit, Macadamia and The Arabica coffee plants were one of the winter crops provided for this project. Today, Doi Chaang coffee is one of the most famous big coffee single estate of Arabica coffee in the world and the best Characteristics in Thailand. With the reputation of the planting area With the appropriate landscape, combined with the hill tribe Akha people who have expertise on agriculture on the hills And the unique flavor The coffee planted from Doi Chang creates many large and medium-sized processing plants in the community, creating more security for farmers. There is a growing coffee. According to the needs of manufacturers and consumers But growing coffee has a positive and negative impact on society, economy and the environment of the community.

What is the estimated population (current 2020) in your Place?

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.

Currently, the area of coffee growing on Doi Chang is approximately 30000 rai. Common is to use chemical fertilizers and use herbicides to limit weeds. in the past 15 years In Thailand to now 2020, coffee shops and Roasted coffee drinkers have been very popular, as can be seen, there is a small coffee shop, convenience stores, petrol stations, Including entering the coffee market of new players Thai giants company such as CP(7/11) PTT, Singha Beer, and Chang Beer Entering into the coffee business of a giant company, Directly affecting society And the environment, especially in terms of income Of small coffee shop operators, Thousands of families do not compete in all aspects. Small entrepreneurs must focus on Find cheap coffee, Not focusing on quality To serve customers for business survival, which in the long run will affect the health of consumers From coffee needs in the increasing production of large companies, farmers have to accelerate planting. The use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides has increased. pollute to the environment, water contaminated with pesticides especially pollute to the local eater supply, Nitrogen accumulation soil from chemical fertilizers release nitrous oxide into the atmosphere trapping heat causing global warming and to climate change phenomena in finally. Farmers, villagers, and consumers may be contaminated by exposure to inhalation of chemicals and may be contaminated in coffee which has an impact on the health of consumers directly. From concern in these matters, I create homemade organic coffee production, Do not use chemicals and pesticides in farming. By working closely with small farmers to support farmers by made them create they own price compare if they have to sell their conventional coffee to big Factory and that price can be made my production to a customer with a reasonable price too, I started working with Akha hill tribe farmers about organic coffee for 9 families since 2014. To the present 2020 Success in making organic coffee Only one family To change Conventional Farming to Organic Farming Must arise from the cooperation of many parties, starting from Farmers family, A manufacturer with a vision, Consumers are aware of the dangers contaminated with food, and distributors cooperate in providing safe products for consumers. Challenges this year to 2050. I want to see an area for organic coffee growing by 50% of the area. Although it is difficult to make the food chain system sustainable and safe it is a challenging task And during the remaining life Never thought to stop persuading farmers to see good results For health, environment And stable income From organic farming And will give as much information as possible for organic farming to consumers. And in the production line of the whole food cycle must manage to have the least waste Or create a new product from the leftovers And must be least affected by the environment, and with the high determination to change the production of coffee supply chain from Conventional to organic farming

Address the Challenges: Describe how your Vision will address the challenges described in the previous question.

My vision of organic farming Will help create sustainable development in the community Both social, economic And the environment And create safety in every chain of food production Social Impact Smallholder farmers in the Doichang rely for most of the year on the workforce available from their family members Both younger and older, During the coffee harvesting season, to avoid losing the ripe fruits and a minimum price guarantee of the Coffee factory, causing farmers to lack the opportunity to increase profits, According to the demand and supply of the market, Farmers Buy more chemical fertilizer In order farmers hope to get a lot of coffee weight But The cost is more. Do a lot but don't have enough money to pay labor, a lot of herbicides use to limit the grass for Is to reduce labor costs, Farmers are expanding more cultivated areas but not increase their income. Changing to organic coffee, farmers will get a satisfactory price for farmers, stable income and eliminate poverty, as well as reduced health risks due to less use of dangerous herbicides. Economy Impact : •We involve rising farm incomes as we created Farmers Satisfied Price for a farmer to create their own price in each year, more stable employment cause farmers possibilities to paid for farmworkers, We Help direct Trade Coffee that Farmer practices Organic farming to consumers. Environmental impacts Coffee farming requires huge amounts of natural water resources. Processing of coffee also has environmental impacts on the effects of coffee wet milling on streams and drinking water is an issue in our communities. Polluted processing water enters the local waterways and can cause disease or death in plants, animals, and humans. Some year farmers are facing new obstacles. “Climate change is hitting coffee farmers particularly hard, drought and flooding are both more widespread, and rising temperatures threaten coffee farmers, regardless of location. Unpredictable climates can have a direct impact on crop quality and, in turn, dramatically reduce a farmer’s income Yoddoi Product we solve this problem by Water-friendly Coffee processing, We change the way of processing Coffee Form Fully washed processing to Semi Washed processing that can save water up to 70 % and to Dry Natural Processing can save water 100 %. And the coffee cherry pulp waste from coffee processing We Made Tea Drink, Natural compost, Shampoo, and Liquid body wash soap create a new job to the community. This is our work of Zero-Waste Coffee Processing. To help reduce methane greenhouse gas to global to save our climate and also the way we stop chemical fertilizer to reduce nitrous oxide greenhouse gas to the atmosphere help made our global cooler.

High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.

Coffee is a popular drink Worldwide , But consumer does not know that most coffees are sprayed with pesticides, might me end up to consumer drink, pollute to the environment especially pollute to The Local water supply,  Happened in the increasing production of large companies worldwide and also in Thailand too, Big company buy coffee cherry from farmer by weight, farmer has to accelerate planting for get more weight to save their family labor and hope to get more income trending to Heavily treated chemicals in the crops, Many of pesticides & herbicides sprayed directly on the crops sometimes a majority of the compound ends up in the environment, whether it is in the soil, water, atmosphere or in the products harvested and might end up in the coffee or food that you consume on a daily basis,  harm your bodies, pollute the local water supply,

Yoddoi Homemade Coffee is Organic, by working with Local farmer  we increased their income by 25%, we have hired more woman in our community for hand sorting and packing coffee

Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?

Vision in 2050 Of mine is the image that I see Coffee farmers in the community have better incomes, better health through organic farming. Which has the least impact on the environment and can point out changes in 6 aspects as follows Environmental – Organic coffee making does not use any chemicals Is to reduce contamination of Hazardous chemicals into public water sources and in the air. Stopping the use of chemical fertilizers helps to reduce the production of nitrous oxide, which is a greenhouse gas. That will reflect in the atmosphere Causing the world to heat up and will ultimately affect climate change Dietry - Organic coffee making Is a presentation of safe food choices for consumers. Coffee is a drink that is popular all over the world. But not many consumers Who never knew Coffee is a plant that has many chemicals to eliminate plants and insects. Which may be contaminated into a cup of coffee that we drink on a daily basis. Safe coffee drinking And through the production process that is No added fragrance, color Or any synthetic substance Will improve the health of everyone who drinks Economic - Organic coffee making Is sustainable agriculture, farmers can set their own prices More jobs are created because organic coffee requires More local labor, farmers can hire Workers can take care of the coffee plantation and processing. Leftovers from organic coffee production line Resulting in an increase in employment, local income distribution Culture - Most of the farmers who look after coffee plantations are women or The housewife in the morning wakes up to cook for the family before going to the coffee farm. Returning home in the evening, and cook for the family again and I notice almost every coffee plantation. There will be a corner where the housewives will proportion to grow vegetables for family members. Which those vegetables Do not use any chemicals at all. I sincerely hope that when the 50% area of Doi Chang has changed from making coffee to more organic chemicals. Coffee farmer's housekeeper Will be able to grow vegetables for household consumption more conveniently and safer Technology - highland organic farming Have difficulty Requires skilled labor Most of which are lacking Having technology to help farmers will make Organic farming is more convenient, for example, Would like to see small machines Help add compost Watering machines for coffee in the dry season, the precise nutrients that coffee plants need. These machines must be designed specifically for use. On a mountainous area or a sloping area, And want to see the investment from any company, invest from research and development Inventing natural pest limiting substances That work And manufactured for the villagers to buy and use conveniently And the price is fair To help push the food safety chain to come true Policy side - 2020 Fortunately for Thailand, private organizations and independent organizations have unfolded The hazards of weeds and insects that affect people's health Causing the Thai government to cancel the import of 3 dangerous chemicals and the government introduced the policy in 2030 Thailand will be The country has all organic agriculture, which the policy to promote farmers For organic farming Resulting in my work in 2020 easier and with Farmers are interested in joining more, and by 2050 it is expected that there will be farmers Turning to make organic coffee up to 50% of all coffee growing areas on Doi Chang. Farmer Involement : Our work Can’t be easy success if without the help and the high discipline of farmer who brave to change the way conventional farming to Organically Grown Farming Mr.Somsak have 4 place of coffee farming , He change to organic coffee in 2 place (total 30 rai)to observed with us ,Good Luck that we learn together in 2014 we success in organic farming and i can start selling organic coffee from Mr. Somsak farm in the end of years 2017 The brave of Mr.Somsak Made A Good Change to the Community ,some of his relative want to join our project this year that made me Happy to see this happened in the community the more farmers join much more Less harmful chemicals to farmers, to environment and to customer and also less nitrusoxide green house gas release to the atmosphere from chemical fertilizer ,that help solve global warming and impact in good way to our climate.
