Surabaya, the second-largest city in Indonesia that covers 350.5 km^2.

What country is your selected Place located in?


Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.

Our team has to live in Surabaya for several years and found that Surabaya have problem in malnourishment, especially in their suburban area. However, they also a metropolitan city with a large amount of millennials middle-up class which has dietary habits and big social empathy. So, we are thinking to help them to connect their excess food to malnourished people.

Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.

Surabaya is the second-largest city in Indonesia, East Sout Asia with a total population of 2.7 million people. Surabaya people dominated with low land with a tropical climate (2 seasons, wet and dry season). Surabaya have 2 kind type of area, first, the city center, which dominated by middle-up class, and the second is a suburban area, which located in north and south of the city which dominated by low-income people. BPS (Statistic Office) released that Surabaya have 5% of very low-income people with 15000 stunting babies. On the other side, Surabaya is granted as a good smart city in Indonesia with a large number of millennials (around 33%), and most of them are the middle class which have a better awareness of healthy lifestyle and social empathy.

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.

In 2020, Surabaya faces 5% of very low-income people with 15.000 babies stunting, in another side our Millenials have awareness of a healthy lifestyle and social empathy. We hope that in 2050, we can together bring Surabaya into the stunting and malnourished-free and role model of food independent city.

Address the Challenges: Describe how your Vision will address the challenges described in the previous question.

With our online application, we believe it can drive our middle-class Millenials to share their excess food due to their healthy lifestyle to malnourished people. 

For that vision hereby our strategic implementation roadmap:

1. Validate malnourished people in Surabaya, and catch the reality of each malnourished family and bring the detail information into our application as our user.

2. We will engage with the social-care community to campaign the application, and the impact of the application.

3. We will report each progress and impact the food (calorie) share up to date.

High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.

Our high-level vision changes the awareness of our middle-income people to more aware with their "neighbour", together with enjoy a healthy life, together share their excess food to malnourished people.

Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?

Our System is Technology-Based which can connect food donors with food recipients. Our targeted food donor is social empathy middle-class Millenials which they are technologically savvy also. And food recipients will dominate with very low-income people in the metropolitan areas. We believe with this system we can reduce the food waste due to excess food, decrease the stunting child.
