Lead Applicant: In what city or town are you located?

Lead Applicant: In what country are you located?

Your Selected Place: what’s the name of the Place you’re developing a Vision for?

Northern and Eastern Uganda regions. These two regions combined cover approximately 96,000 km*2 of Uganda.

What country is your selected Place located in?

Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.

In Northern Uganda, districts such as Gulu, Nyowa, Lira are the largest producers of Nuts, Vegetable and grain crops in Uganda. These areas have the Vast fertile lands. This area was also greatly affected by the LRA wars from 1986 to 2008.

Eastern Uganda is home to the region that is most impoverished in Uganda. Our involvement in the Eastern districts of Kamuli, Jinja, Iganda, Bukwo is to encourage commercial agriculture and support women in agriculture.

Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.

Additionally to the above, my co-founder and I, are from these regions.

My mother is from Nwoya district in Northern Uganda.

Julius Naika, my colleague is from Buyende district in Eastern Uganda.

He is also a member of the ruling family of Busoga Kingdom in Eastern Uganda.

What is the approximate size of your Place, in square kilometers? (New question, not required)

What is the estimated population (current 2020) in your Place?

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.

The limited access to Quality and Affordable Agro-Inputs by majority of Small farmers in Uganda due to the high prevalence of Substandard Agro-Inputs in the Market. As a result, Uganda loses about USD 1.5Bn in revenue .

Address the Challenges: Describe how your Vision will address the challenges described in the previous question.

We are one of the players focusing on digitizing at both the input and produce stages by linking all the players in agriculture at the input level (farmers, agro-dealers, financial institutions, governments, development partners ) and at produce level ( FMCGs, produce aggregators).

Marketplace solutions such as Famunera, Jaguza, Agrikore have been featured as significant use cases of how digital tools are being built to tackle major challenges of attracting and retaining a significant number of buyers and sellers, and in thus doing, help to solve the problem of inefficient and fragmented agricultural markets.

High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.

Our audacious goal is to register millions of agriculture value chain intermediaries at both input and produce level  into a single transparent blockchain-based ecosystem enabling all to trade in a low cost trusted environment where all transactions are recorded in an undisputable system.

Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?

Uganda is known as the food basket of East africa; providing food to countries such as South Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania among others. By supporting Ugandan farmers, we  believe we'll have impact on Diet in the region along with economic impact.

Majority of farmers in Uganda will have  limited credit history making it difficult for them to easily secure agribusiness loans from Credit service Providers. We will increase the number of farmers accessing Credit through our Farmers Credit score tool, a Technology we are currently developing.

We aim to revitalize agribusiness and provide Ugandan smallholder farmers with quality, sustainable economic opportunities by introducing data-driven tech solutions for the challenges faced in agriculture  while using environmentally friendly Agro-inputs.

Way to go! Digitalization is certainly critical to sustaining the food system. The challenge lies in accessing such technology in rural areas. How do you intend to achieve this?
