Lead Applicant: In what city or town are you located?
Lead Applicant: In what country are you located?
Your Selected Place: what’s the name of the Place you’re developing a Vision for?
What country is your selected Place located in?
Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.
I selected this particular place because more than 95% of people in this area earn their living through farming. This therefore presents a big opportunity for scalability of a food sustainability project like this one.
This place is important to me and our project because the people here are very hardworking and have a lot of willingness to learn and apply new knowledge. This means it will be easy to train them into ideas that will improve their livelihood and develop their productivity in the areas of food production.
I am personally connected to this place because i am born and raised here. This makes me very familiar with the way of life in the area. This means i know well the kinds of economic activities carried out in the area.
Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.
The general feel of the place is that people are very hospitable and welcoming to visitors. This makes one feel very at home while in their midst. The people of western Uganda largely feed on natural organic foods which they grow in their gardens. These include bananas, potatoes, irish, and millet. Western Uganda enjoys a wet and hot tropical climate. This means the area is able to receive rain and sunshine throughout the year. Western Uganda is a mixture of different cultures because it has people from different back grounds. This is because Uganda is host to many refugees from different countries. This part of the country mainly grows bananas and rears cattle. Agriculture is the main source of income for people in this area.
What is the estimated population (current 2020) in your Place?
Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.
Our Food system currently is faced with a challenge of limited resources to scale up our services to more people. Environmentally, global warming is real and it is slowly eating up the environment by uncoordinated rains and droughts. This coupled with massive tree cutting without replacement is a serious threat to humanity because food relies on a good environment to grow well.
Address the Challenges: Describe how your Vision will address the challenges described in the previous question.
We are currently running a tree planting project in western Uganda where we enable households to plant trees around their land as a way of demarcation. We chose this particular system because due to land fragmentation there is barely land to do afforestation on a large scale.
We also support our beneficiaries by providing them with good seed varieties for planting in order to ensure good production.
High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.
With these challenges addressed, i envision to see a greener Western Uganda due to tree planting. With improved agricultural practices, i am certain peoples lives will be improved by living healthier and improve their levels of income.
Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?
