Lead Applicant: In what city or town are you located?

Plateau State Nigeria

Lead Applicant: In what country are you located?

Your Selected Place: what’s the name of the Place you’re developing a Vision for?

Plateau State Nigeria has a total area of about 30,913 km square.

What country is your selected Place located in?

Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.

I was born here in Jos, the capital of Plateau State. It is a place situated approximately at the center of Nigeria, with a unique elevated mountain tops, water falls and hills. Plateau state prides itself as being "The Home of Peace and Tourism" in Nigeria. It is about the coldest region in the country with an altitude ranging from 1200 meters (3900 ft) to a peak of 1829 meters (6001 ft) above sea level in the shere Hills range near Jos the State's capital. I am connected to this place in two ways; 1. It is about the coldest place in Nigeria, making the environment comfortable for food processing and preservation. 2. It is a land so fertile with flowing waters & many rare fruits/vegetables that comfortably grows unlike anywhere else in Nigeria. Such as the famous Miango Pepper, Cashew, Coffee, Arish Potato, Strawberry, Apple etc.

Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.

Plateau State is the twelfth largest State in Nigeria, with approximately 3-4 million people residing within its environs. The state is situated around the tropical zone, having a high altitude of about 3900-6001 ft, which means it has a near temperate climate with average temperatures of about 13 to 22°C. It is located on a latitude of 08°24N and longitude 008°32 and 010°38' east. The state is recognized as the Home of Peace and Tourism due to its welcoming indigines, urbanized city plan, tourist site (mountainous hills and waterfall environments), social lifestyle and culture. It is a very beautiful State which is blessed with so many precious stones, granites and mineral resources constantly being mined to contribute huge chunks to the states GDP. Jos the State's capital is known to have housed and raised alot of contemporary Nigerian entertainment & sport icons such as the famous P-square, Chocolate City record label, Ahmed Musa et-al.., In recent years the state has been overridden by economic justling between settlers and visitors all clamouring for business dominance and this has birth so many opportunities for development & growth. Jos is a place I will recommend visitors looking for a destination in Nigeria to invest, tour or relax and you will thank me later.

What is the approximate size of your Place, in square kilometers? (New question, not required)

What is the estimated population (current 2020) in your Place?

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.

Globally, approximate 1.2 billion people go hungry everyday and half of this figure dies of starvation and malnutrition(GBI 2015), the United States Department for Agriculture (USDA) identifies about 1.3 billion tons of food wastes annually as a result of food deterioration and this figure amounts for over one-third of the global food produced and this is highly unacceptable. Poverty Clock Index (PCI) rates Nigeria as being the home for world's poorest people despite her abundant food and mineral resources (Clock 2018 rating). Currently Plateau state in Nigeria has all the climatic conditions necessary to make her the "Future of Africas Food Hub" if properly harnessed and projected for the vision of food sustenance. For this to be achieved by 2050, Sub-zero Agro-Green Atmosphere envisages surmounting the following challenges; 1. The Challenge of setting up a sustainable food ecosystem in Plateau State, using "Sub-zero-Cooperative-Styled Structure" that redresses the local farming panacea. 2. The Challenge of unsteady Power supply to power preservation conduits that sustains food shelf-life extensions. 3. Access to rural localities where most farming take place. 4. Poor governmental support. 5. High Governmental taxation. 6. Insufficient Agric-insurance bodies. 7. Poor pro-food polices from regulatory bodies. 8. Insufficient food processing industries. 9. Activities of middle-food players, food unions etc. 10. Food seasonality. 11. Insufficient food cooperatives within the region. In the future (year 2050), if drastic measures are not put in place, the population domiciled in the state would have surged up, meaning more food will waste daily amidst more people looking for food and definitely more people will go hungry daily-leading to malnutrition, increased crime rate, deficiency of intellectual property, poverty, drought, devaluation and recession, etc.

Address the Challenges: Describe how your Vision will address the challenges described in the previous question.

1. Sub-zero Agro-Green Atmosphere aims at combating food spoils using Food Sustenance Advocacy (FSA), Food Presevative Techniques (FPT), Artificial Intelligence (Patented ICT Hub) and Controlled Food Climatic Atmospheres to set Plateau State of Nigeria as the Future of Africas Food Hub by year 2050. Our aim is to promote food synergy, prolong food keeping quality and stimulate the food ecosystem in Plateau State with our Sub-zero Cooperative Technological approach. Our approach intends converting about 30 percent of local farmers to Sub-zero food technologists under our platform within a decade, equipping them with basic tools and technologies to compete sustainably in agri-food value-chain, eradicating the activities of middle food players as a major approach to combat food frictions leading to major food wastes on the Plateau. Sub-zero cooperate farmers will be guided with food-handling techniques around sustainable farming cycles, access to convenient farming finances, food storage services, haulage logistics and a whole lot of synergies, etc.. We aim at preserving organic  species with high perishable resistance, that will produce optimally, using Sub-zero Technology to extend their keeping quality while we introduce a market Technology solution (Sub-zero ICT software) that accesses market gaps creating dissipatory channels along the food value chains, hence, eliminating the activities of middle food players thoroughly. This action will translate to reducing food losses by 20% around these regions within a decade, and by over 50-70% by 2050. Moreso, it will attract investors such as food insurance bodies, offtakers, transportation unions, E-commerce, farmer export markets etc, all of these will help reduce food seasonality as farmers wont need worry about seasonal seedlings, storaging and offcourse open up needs for increased food processing plants within the state and locality. 2. Sub-zero preservation Technology will be built around a mix of both local storage processes & Modernised systems (Solar built Temperature moderating coldrooms/conduits). We intend tapping the power of both solar and wind energy to construct coldroom plants that can serve as storage warehouses suiting different cadres of agro-produces for commercial storages. We intend building an ICT friendly software that farmers-investors could use in communicating directly (Market creation), hence access to information realtime farm produces. This we are optimistic will open up needs for more local foods to be produced, consumed and exported leading to flowing access to finance. 3. Sub-zero Agro-green atmosphere will serve as an anchor food resource & research centre bankable by investors, farmers, food associations, food regulatory bodies etc. We are looking at breaking the dynamics of middle players who frequently create artificial scarcity of perishable food-produces for selfish interests, hence impoverishing the local farmers, food vendors and society in general.

High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.

1. With the near complete elimination of middle food players whose activities impoverishes these local food producing farmers in most food producing communities on the Plateau. This technology will go a long way to restore joy and dignity to the lives of these miserable local farmers, helping them make more money from their farming labour. Moreso the fake hike in food prices & fake food scarcity which these middle food players introduces frequently will be completely cut off as more food offtakers will now be having direct link to Sub-zero corporate farmers via our created Sub-zero ICT business software for more transparent business dealings. 2. With the introduction of Sub-zero Solar powered preservation conduits & Its ICT technology into food & farming on the Plateau, it will attract more IT-tech investors, E-commerce firms, Insurance bodies etc to invest and stimulate the activities of farming hence making the food industry more attractive and robust and offcourse render our food systems and its environment healthier. 3. With great synergy occurring vis-a-viz Sub-zero Agro-green atmosphere rapid developments along the food value chain will begin to emerge around these food producing communities such as the need for food processing plants/factories to be built, the need for better road constructions to these food localities etc. 4. Sub-zero Corporate farmers will now have more access to finance as more micro & commercial banks will now be able to evaluate farmers potentials and release more finances for farming and food sustenance. 5. Sub-zero Agro-green Atmosphere will improve the keeping quality of perishable foods on the Plateau as more food will now have longer shelf-lives, hence a drastic reduction in food spoils and more food value. 6. With food abundance on the Plateau, by year 2050 we anticipate having over 10 million corporate-styled farmers under our directory whose activities add value to over 70% of prior food wastes, food recycling & food development.

Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?

Sub-zero Agro-green Atmosphere has a long term projected traction to serve as a Food Support Center (FSC) on the Plateau, combating food insecurity along perishables value-chain. We aim at harnessing about 50-70% of SME's operating within Plateau States food-value chain into our support scheme, improving their capacities with global best practices and standards. This will amount to over 40-50 million direct and indirect sustainable food businesses, rebranded and functional by year 2050. We intend developing an innovative patented ICT Software (Artificial Intelligence) that will stimulate crowdfunding for agri-investment purposes per time, produce real-time farming statistics, keep traction of projected investment patterns, showcase our corporate farmers with their farm capacities, induce data traction of undergoing food elongated shelf-lives et-al.., creating social opportunities for wealth generation for low/middle income earners, high investors and the global community at large. This ICT innovation will stimulate the food industry in Plateau State making her regenerative and attractive enough to draw more investments from technocrats, policy makers and the global community at large by 2050. With the introduction of Sub-zero cooperate-styled farming system, which showcases our corporate farmers and their product capacities to the world eliminates activities of middle food players, draws more farming investments and revenues amidst bringing about pro-food policies in the area of food waste management and recycling on the Plateau. When this is properly done, it will increase and improve food production output, enhancing food abundance on the Plateau, which will aide reduce starvation and malnutrition levels, reduce poverty and crime. It will also standardise the food industry in Plateau state & eventually Nigeria to compete favourably in international markets for safe exports.
