Niger State lies on the 3.20°East and longitude 11.30°North covering a total land area of 76,363 km^2. Kaduna State and FCT are her borders.

Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.
Firstly, we selected Niger state because of her large land mass and fertile soil that can be employed for all kind of sustainable agricultural practices. The presence of river Niger (largest river in Nigeria) brought about the creation of dams and three hydro-electric power stations: the Shiroro, Kainji and Jebba power stations, which can be harness for commercial agriculture.
Over the years, Niger state Nigeria is one of the few Northern states that has never experience bomb blast, insurgency or any religious riots, compared to other Northern states in the country, it is the most peaceful state in the northern Nigeria. Over 90% of the inhabitants are farmers either full time or part time agriculturist, as such making the region best suited for our project.
Finally, the rich fertile soil support the growth of almost every crops anyone can find in Nigeria which makes the state to be among the top two rice producing states in Nigeria and one of the top rice producers in the whole African continent.

Niger state is located in north-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria, created out of the defunct North Western Nigeria in 1976 and it is divided into twenty five (25) local government areas with three principal ethnic groups:The Nupe,The Gwari and The Hausa. Other groups include the Koro, the Kadara, the Kambari, the Kamuku, the Pangu, the Bassa, the Bauchi, the Fulani, the Dukawa, the Gabo, the Godara, the Ganagana, the Mauchi, the Ayadi, the Ingwai, the Dido, the Kadanda, the Gulengi, the Abi Shiwa and the Shigini. The Nupe are found in Gboko, Lavun, Bida, Bia, Agai and parts of Moriga, while the Gwari, Kadara and Koro occupy Suleja, Chanchaga and Shiroro, the Kambari are found in Mariga, Magama and Rafi local government.
The State is the largest state in the country in term of landmass and referred to as the “Power State” because of the existence of three hydro-electric power stations: the Shiroro, Kainji and Jebba power stations. The State experiences distinct dry and wet seasons with annual rain fall varying from 1,100mm in the Northern part to 1,600mm in the southern parts. The maximum temperature is recorded between March and June, while the minimum is usually between December and January.
Rainy seasons last for about 150 days in the Northern parts to about 120 days in the Southern parts. Kaduna State and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are her borders to the North-East and South-East. Zamfara State borders the North, Kebbi State in the West, Kogi State in the South and Kwara State in the South-West, while the Republic of Benin to her North-West. The people traditionally live in small villages as well as in precolonial towns and cities where they grow crops. The fertile soil and hydrology of the State permit the cultivation of staple crops: Millet, sorghum, and beans are the major food crops and cotton is the major cash crops.
Rice is grown along the banks of the Niger River. Millet is the basic daily staple, followed in importance by corn, sorghum, rice, beans, cow-peas, cassava, and raise livestock including cattle as well as engage in trade. Also, the soil still allows sufficient opportunities for grazing, fresh water fishing and forestry development.
The tradition of the people, the fertile soil, hydrology, their live style in term of trade, and the geographical location of this area makes it suited as our starting point to build the food system vision not only for the state and Nigerians but for Africa and the world at large.

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.
According to Nigeria’s agriculture minister Audu Ogbeh, crude oil had dominate Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings, while agricultural productivity shrinks due to neglect and under-investment with more than 80 percent of Nigeria’s farmers being smallholder farmers and they are the main producers of over 90 percent of domestic output. Recent World Bank 2016 report found that ''half of working Nigerians are in smallholder farming'' but this group accounts for the ‘‘poorest 40 percent of the population compared to only 17 percent of wage workers''.
Predominant Poverty amongst small-scale farmers is due to myriad of problems of low use of mechanization, poor agricultural extension systems, lack of access to credit, Storage facilities, quality inputs such as fertilizer and good seeds and in recent times, climate change — which is marked by irregular rainfall patterns and rising temperatures — has made things worse.
Base on Worldometers (https://www.worldometers.info), Nigeria population is predicted to be 450 million in the year 2050 and will make it to be the third most populous country in the world after China and India. Production of food to feed teeming population like Nigeria by that year will be an enormous challenge as a developing Nation, especially as more than half of Nigerian population live in urban areas. Nigeria agricultural sector will certainly face enormous challenge to feed this ever-increasing population.
According to experts, food production must increase to 70 percent by 2050, and this has to be achieved in spite of the limited availability of arable lands in the cities and the increasing need for fresh crops and water by many competing issues like industries, domestics and Agriculture.

Nigeria agricultural sector and the world at large need to achieve food sufficiency through massive adoption of improved technologies that could address the production constraints and increase the quality and quantity of agricultural production, one of such technologies is precision agriculture, also known as “smart farming”.
Thus, our mission as a team is to address the issue of low productivity and scalability of small-scale farming by using the world’s most advanced solution for mapping and diagnostics farmland(Gamaya) via transfer of technology and collaboration between Agricultural research institutes in Nigeria and we, so as to:
1.Help farmers reduce expenses on fertilizers and crop protection chemicals that can account for 50% of the total seasonal expenses for industrial farming businesses.
2.Reduce the risks of extreme weather, climate and drought conditions.
3.Help farmer focus on improve quality and quantity food crops, while eliminating the average losses of yield to diseases and pests that can amount to 20%.
4. Reduce hunger, malnutrition, and poverty.
5. To build the first central warehousing systems before 2050 that will provide safe and reliable storage facilities for over 80 agricultural and industrial commodities.
Our vision for 2050 is to cut down food crops prices, prevent crop wastage as a result of lack of storage systems and access to market. Thus, our purpose is to ensure sustainable agriculture and global food security through universal access to agronomy knowledge and best farming practices, through collaboration with Gamaya Agricultural technology, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Agricultural Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI), National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS) and Food processing industries to come together as a whole, through a trusted platform that can attract investors, vet, and sponsor small-scale farmers to grow healthy food crops and feed the people no matter the size of the population by 2050.
We aim to start this project in Niger State, with your support, support from Swiss Ag-tech, Support from Nigeria Agricultural Research Institutes and Investors, Farmers will have access to finance needed for their farms, insurance, technology-driven advisory, best practice based on soil, seeds, weather tests and access to premium market by helping them grow healthy crops and skip a long chain of middlemen.
High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.
Farmers: Every Farmer in Rural and Urban communities will be opportune to access quality seeds, best technology-driven advisory like best planting practices based on soil and weather tests and access to premium market. Investors:
Every Investors will get at least 30% Return on investment depending on crop maturity period via the cooperate bank that will be created to foresee that farmers gets the right investment they need and investors in turn, enjoying return on investment.
Direct and Indirect Employment: Our Mission also include getting every Nigerian Youth (especially many unemployed graduate) involved in modern agricultural practices, such that by the year 2050 only those Youth who want wealth without work will be left out, because even our project-pilot will absorb over 500 unemployed graduates from that state to co-work with the local Farmers, and this will increase transport flow of people and farm items which in turn translate to increase business activities for the communities.
Final Consumers: Amongst our Vision is to see that every Nigerian have access to quality and quantity food on their table by the year 2050 no matter their level of income in the society. By the year 2050 crops grown from improved seeds, grafted with nutritional values and nurture by best agricultural practices under the watch of advance drones like Gamaya will be made available to all as compared to the current situation where only the so called elite and average income earners can afford quality nutritious food.
Gross Domestic Product (GDP): The aftermath of our vision by the year 2050 is to see Nigeria as a great nation where there is zero hunger and one of the leading exporting countries in supplying of quality agricultural products and thus increase GDP.

THE CONNECTIVITY OF OUR VISION
From the connecting of our Vision, it is seen that among the challenges facing crop production is the excessive use of artificial fertilizer, crop protection chemicals and lack of knowledge by these local farmers to predict or have access to information concerning weather condition. Thus, it is necessary to narrow down the use of artificial fertilizers to organic fertilizer, reduce risks associated with drought, extreme weather conditions, climate change and crop protection chemicals that are many times wash away to rivers and streams where they cause environmental pollution to harm us.
The technology we are employing takes into cognizance environmental pollution by using the hyper-spectral Image technology with a range of complimentary sources which are satellite observations, terrestrial sensors and analytical software to account for weather and other environmental conditions to yield accurate analysis and predictions.
Apart from farmland mapping and diagnostics ability of Gamaya technology to be used, the technology take care of the fact that plants with different physiology and characteristics reflect light differently, the hyper-spectral imaging, and its ability to capture reflectance in a much more detailed and precise way allows to detect problems such as diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and other crop issues that can bring massive losses to crop production. Thus, increasing yield quality and quantity, also because of its high flexibility to specific problems, the technology serves as a plus for us to achieve our goal of increasing productivity and scalability of small-scale farming to meet not just the demand for healthy food production for our chosen community by 2050 but for the world at large and brings our vision of cutting down food crops prices and still provide better quality and quantity food for all, no matter the size of Nigeria's population by year 2050.
Although when it comes to food culture for the people of Niger state Nigeria, Millet is the basic daily staple for most rural people in all the regions, followed in order of importance are Maize, Sorghum, Rice, Cow-pea, Cassava, and wheat dishes such as couscous of which the team have agreed that there will be a major discount on every important food in the community whenever there is a major festival and 1% of the total company profit for the last quarter of every year will be for educational support for Children out of school in the community.
From the Diet theme, another challenge of community farming is lack of access to improved seeds and poor knowledge on modern agricultural practices such as crop preservation in large quantities that can enhance food security, reduce producer and consumer risks for the community and the world at large. Therefore, to eliminate this shortcoming amongst the local farmers, we will build the first central warehousing that will provide safe and reliable storage facilities for over 80 agricultural crops for domestic and industrial consumption by increasing crop production, improve preservation systems for crops and sustainably manage natural resources through partnership with national and international stakeholders by focusing research on genetically improve seeds and plant health of important African staple crops such as Millet, Rice, Cassava, Cow-pea, Maize, Banana, Soybean, Yam, Groundnut and others for the people of Nigeria and the world at large.
Our Economics for increasing productivity and scalability for the first year of our operation employs 20,000 hectares of arable land in farming Rice, 10,000 hectares of soybeans, 5000 hectares of yam and 5000 hectares of Red beans (before Millet, Tomato, Onion, Banana, Cassava and Maize. While Vegetables and Perennial crops will be when we have built processing units and store houses for perishable crops) via the coming together of Farmers through a Cooperative platform that will be created for the Farmers and Investors alike, even as we expand in Landmass every year, increase in number of unemployed graduates to Farmers that will be trained in classrooms and on the Fields, until our Vision for quality and quantity crops is available for all Nigerians by 2050. Our marketing strategy involves effective online sales page and ‘ordering for crops application software’ for direct sales for anyone who may want to order for fresh or dried crops from the farm, but our major marketing strategy channels is offline where we sell directly to market women, men and anyone.
Our profit formula entails that National Research partners receives their payment base on the provision of genetically improved and healthy seeds, training of farmers and staff, technology-driven advice and equipment's, while every Investors get at least 25% Return on investment depending on the kind of crops and maturity period, Farmer get 35%, Swiss AgTech get 20% and the Company get 20% base on PROFIT via the cooperate bank that will be created to foresee Farmers getting the right investment they need and investors alike get their benefits, bearing in mind that the sole goal is to see every Nigerians having access to quality and quantity food on their table no matter their level of income in the community.
Our policy as team is to collaborate with Gamaya Agricultural technology, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Agricultural Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI), National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS). Apart from Gamaya and I.I.T.A, ARMTI and NAERLS are Government agency concern with research and agriculture development and access to agronomy knowledge and best farming practices. Although, of recent, Nigeria Government has ban the importation of foreign rice into the Country which is an advantage for us since our first year farming template includes rice farming of 20,000 hectares. Also, there are existing subsidies for commercial farmers in buying of seeds, artificial fertilizers of which we want to zero to organic fertilizer and Nigeria government have make available favorable market for quick exportation of cash crops to foreign countries even though our vision is to cut down food prices for Nigerians first before the outside world.
