Lead Applicant Organization Name

Oluwafemi Boluwatife Glory

Lead Applicant Organization Type

  • Small company (under 50 employees)

How long have you / your team been working on this Vision?

  • Just beginning now

Lead Applicant: In what city or town are you located?

Oyo State

Lead Applicant: In what country are you located?

Nigeria

Your Selected Place: what’s the name of the Place you’re developing a Vision for?

Oyo state, Ogun State, Lagos state and Osun State in the South Western part of Nigeria, cover an area of 58, 263km^2

What country is your selected Place located in?

Nigeria

Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.

I selected this place because there is enough land available for me there to do large scale agricultural and waste management activities for our farm and energy generation. Magnics Farms have a vision to make the South Western part of Nigeria to be the headquarters of agriculture and food production, knowing fully well that the region has fertile land and the indigenous people of the region love agriculture as a profession.

About 90 percent of the land in South Western region is fertile and about two decades ago, virtually 40 to 60 percent of the entire population of the people living in these states practice subsistence farming, which is their main profession as at that time.

What is the approximate size of your Place, in square kilometers? (New question, not required)

58263

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.

The current problem that food system faces is Food Loss and Waste (environment). This is an environmental, economical and policy issue combined with lack of required technological knowledge to halve food loss and waste effectively. The 2050 challenges that food system faces include diets and culture assume these other current problems are taken care of. Some food culture that are essential may go into extinction due to globalization and other implicating issues as regards diets and health. Hence, if these current problems are not carefully dealt with, these problems will surface in 2050 and there may be a problem of food insecurity by 2050, both dietary, cultural and environmental related food insecurity.

Address the Challenges: Describe how your Vision will address the challenges described in the previous question.

My vision is to create a one-stop agricultural farm that will be self-powered through waste and loss from agricultural by-products, both animals and crops for energy generation. We want to keep building upon the value chains of raw agricultural produces by making valuable and culture- and environment-friendly materials from agricultural waste. This will promote sustainable agriculture and enhance the production of more products and resources from agriculture.

High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.

With these challenges addressed, the selected states will be more industrialized, productive and environmentally friendly. By generating power from waste management, we will be giving the states the opportunity to utilize another source of energy which is sustainable and environmentally friendly. Also, this will employ thousands of unemployed people, thereby providing jobs for the teeming population. Finally, it will make the region to be food sufficient and become the main producer of food and other agricultural produces for industries' usage.

Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?

Smarter cities and sustainable living are key essentials in our vision for 2050. We plan to leverage upon technological systems like Machine Learning and other Artificial Intelligence networks to proffer safer and affordable solutions in the agricultural space while we ensure that food waste is halved to its barest minimum. This, we want to achieve by employing very effective people into our farms while also leveraging upon technology for very difficult and/or routine jobs on the farms, making the farm more sustainable and smarter.

We are eager to learn at the fastest pace and train ourselves even more harder and quicker to ensuring sustainable agriculture by investing deeply in research and development, which is key to our farm. We are going to be building a lot of labs for experimenting our solutions for our better world through a constant synchronization with technology.

At the end, we envision a one-stop agricultural center where everything about agriculture will be present and where sustainability will promoted greatly.

hi Boluwatife: Good afternoon from India. Nice submission. will love to learn if your farmers are facing water shortage in summer and winter? Are they having their rainy period crops disturbed due to water logging or flood in monsoon period? If yes then we will love to help you. For last 30 years we are working in this subject. we are helping our smallholders with our World Bank, UNFCCC, Securing Water for Food (USAID) and Millennium Alliance (DFID) awarded innovation BHUNGROO which saves farmers from drought and flood, doubles farmers income and improves soil fertility. Will love to give you our innovation BHUNGROO. It will be our poor farmers' gift for your farmers. We can guarantee the result within 1 year. we are currently helping more than 100000 farming families across India, SEAsia, EAsia & Africa. We have also designed Youth Climate Leaders and Women Climate Leaders programs. I am sure both will add strength to your endeavor.
We also applauded your entry. Will appreciate your feedback on our entry ""Antodaya" through Food".
