Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.

The selection of our place of action for SFS is important from the standpoint of a successful launch. Historically such disruptive intentions are often squelched by competitors especially if they are less costly, more effective, and brought by less seasoned actors within the current milieu.  SFS is just such an organization with historical roots in the not-for-profit world, well poised to engage the Multistakeholders, especially at the grass roots level. The Public Private Partnerships (PPP) envisioned by the SFS plan also has context to build a strong and effective team approaches to solving the food security problem- quickly, effectively and economically.  Oftentimes the top down approach in which the “big” players reside is costlier, less effective and leaving very little in incentive for the small-holder farmers to be much enthusiastic about because most of the money has already been spent elsewhere before they are able to get much that is left and many times without any sustainability of the endeavor beyond the first funding.

By choosing several areas to simultaneously engage the SFS program it is less likely to be shut down politically by the “big” commercial entities because the cost to the competitors to launch countermeasures and the speed at which adoption of SFS Programs has already proved formidable even against the much larger and powerful competition within several current markets.  SFS is following the advice of several key consultants, country leaders and farmers to create a strong multi-country rollout of SFS Programs, Services and Products.

Our partners are MIRUKU COOP that will be engaging farmers in Mozambique, Farm Concern International in Northern part of Tanzania, USAID funded NAFAKA project in Southern Highlands of Tanzania, Uganda Landcare Network (ULN) in Uganda, TESS Engineering in Namibia and the World Food Bank are SFS off-takers in Uganda, Rwanda , Kenya and Zambia.

The target regions is characterized by high dependency upon maize production from subsistence level farmers using outdated technologies on poor soils affected by over use of chemicals, lack of regenerative practices and overall disuse.

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.

We currently in 2020 face the collapse of many of the very systems that provide us the ability to live on Planet Earth. The water and air are polluted. Toxins have been inputted into the soil under the guise of improving production and these vey toxins have remained combined as new chemicals that have other effects while most of the inputs for the soil have leeched into water systems further toxifying the freshwater we drink and the sea water that is responsible for much of the air we breathe, the fisheries that supply livelihoods for millions, the tourism that supplies economics for many nations and ultimately the food resource have become more depleted, harder to keep up with demand thereby more expensive and finally necessitate the need for more dangerous inputs further marginalizing connected biomes and skyrocketing the costs for cropping. There needs to be a radical change to create the opportunity to transition from a downward spiral to a productive, environmentally safe and better future for the communities that provide most of the nutrients that are also at the lowest common denominator for many societies. Mass starvation, pestilence, war and disease are the likely future scenarios we face as a planet. How can we have done this? The public is stupefied into believing that these problems are being solved right now...they aren't! More and more the economics of living are being shrunken to bare subsistence for many on the planet. Much of the food that is being consumed is not nutritious. Almost 40% of the food being produced is not even leaving the fields. Once food is in the market system another 40-60% is being wasted thus leaving a mere 20% efficiency to the whole food productivity equation. The agriculture system is broken. Small-holder farmers, who make up the majority of the farmers on the planet are disenfranchised as they lack a fair go-to-market pathway, they lack the funds to adequately compete with appropriate ways to increase their crop production, the pathways for support are in-general not regenerative (especially depending upon commercial inputs that are more expensive and not sustainable for the farmers to be doing from year to year without outside financial inputs from governments or NGOs), the children of the farmers are not given enough reasons to stay in the community (just as we look at regenerative farming practices for the soil being beneficial, we need to look at regenerative practices for the communities where the farmers reside like public services, education opportunities, health maintenance and effective ombudsmen for the rights of the small-holder farmers and their communities). By 2050; - Will the Earth's landscape be desolate with very few people alive? -Will society revert back to hunter-gatherer societies? -Will governments be collapsed? Will policies cease to exist except for the law of survival? -Will we be further marginalized due to economic disparity?

Salvation Farming Solutions (SFS) is a disruptive, environmentally conscience Farming Technology Company, unapologetic in our passion to produce transformational farming and water treatment solutions; combining decades of field testing with multi-decades of ocean, rivers, lakes and agricultural rejuvenation experience, developing innovative ways to finance and implement profitable global initiatives that directly empower and impact the local community while substantially contributing to a vastly improved economic result; radically increasing delivery of more nutritious food, rejuvenated soil and sustainable aquatic life/water regeneration purification. SFS developed a new maize program system which is revolutionary, combining decades of testing, rich agricultural experience, in-depth knowledge of cellular metabolism, a commitment to natural/organic applications supported by extension services and research driven decisions; creating lower cost, high yield farming solutions. SFS is exploring partnership with both public and private sectors to bring the nature-based technology to farming communities through highly interactive educational programming in developing economies to address the food security challenges experienced in each region served through regenerative agriculture practices. The products include Soil, Fertilizer, Seed and Pesticide treatments which are all natural and non-GMO. How to create the necessary change: 1. Evaluate current conditions 2. Involve leaders in every community to think about the future 3. Train the participants toward eco-friendly economically viable sustainability 4. Participate with the farmers for practice changes 5. Celebrate success 6. Reinvigorate the farm communities 7. Employ artificial intelligence to seek out best patterns and communicate real time information 8. Provide traceability for optimization 9. Better educate all levels of society with economic rewards 10. Follow Farm to Table optimization

High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.

When looking at communities that have adopted the SFS program there will be visible prosperity, health and happiness. During field research, the participating farmers have been eager to get the solutions for their farms and happy to see the results. In every farm market we work with agro-input dealers for pricing guidance and further understand the buying habits of the farmers. It is important to understand how a community works out the agricultural solutions, not just by doing surveys. Products must be effective but also most importantly be affordable within the farmers' purchasing power. By working with the stakeholders within each community their needs can be better understood and the results tailored by the solutions offered to fit their needs. By visiting farmers in small groups led by local lead farmers several times during each cropping cycle; there is better uptake as a result of the close communication. Farmers will see the results and will want to adopt from one season to the next because of the increased prosperity. Furthermore, the farmers' families will be happier due to more income to the household. The community will be happier since local production levels will be increased and secondary economics from processing, transporting and marketing the primary and secondary maize products will bring wealth to the communities by increasing sales of locally produced commodities. Farmers’ increased income will improve local economies, increase available jobs and sustainability of the farmers’ local community. Just by eating the more nutritious SFS maize people will get healthier. Where SFS soil treatment has been applied soils become healthier, more drought resistant and don’t leech poisonous chemicals downstream and quite the reverse, aquatic ecosystems benefit from the SFS farmlands runoffs. This system is easy to be adapted to roll out country by country and at this time we are in negotiations with partners in 26 countries and growing

Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?

To best understand the input and outcomes of the 2050 vision of Salvation Farming Solutions (SFS) is at best a 3-Dimensional equation and like the advent of “Windows” for computers, SFS is a new agriculture operating solution for the living planet. First, we must understand the Top Down aspects of how things get done and undone. How will governments learn to embrace this new technology? By partnering with Global agencies which have fiscal relations with the countries we serve there is already a pathway of support that can be altered towards the more productive, eco-safe, nature-based, regenerative program that presents. Incomes will rise from the SFS adoption, general production (primary, secondary and tertiary) from the farming resources, and ultimately by 2050 GDP will rise significantly in countries served by SFS giving new vitality that was stolen from these countries by the forgone agricultural programs established prior to SFS which poisoned the soil, the streams, the lakes and ultimately the people. Secondly, we must understand Bottom Up and how things happen at the base of the pyramid. By 2050 the SFS solutions applied at the farm levels will be creating thriving communities of prosperous farmers, happy families, and improved ecosystems. We will be able to monitor these improvements from satellites and drones and data will be input into equations that will further benefit the entire production chain for further optimization and transparency. Fish and other wildlife will become abundant in areas where water and food insecurity had previously decimated natural populations and now are thriving again. Fisherfolk will be prospering and the packagers and distributors of the increased sustainable production will benefit these economies. Shoppers will have a more nutritious selection of foods raised on the SFS system and their children will not have to go to the doctors as often because of the new health status because of the more nutritious foods available in 2050 versus the less nutritious foods prior to 2020. The producers will be more recognized in society for their important role and governments will be more representational of the farmer than prior to 2020 marginalized communities and inherent cultures. Thirdly, we must look at the community and its responses in the intervening section. Not only will the producing communities benefit from SFS and the government, but also those in-between. The transportation systems that move the food, the processors of the foods, the commodity brokers who represent the food from the off takers from the farms that produce the food, to the stores that sell the more nutritious foods at the same or lower prices that they sold before 2020. Overall, it is the interaction of these three dimensions that creates the reflexive reaction of the environment to the farmers inputs, reaching the health of the individuals in the community and well-being of those caught in the midst of all of these interactions AND THEREFORE COMMUNICATION IS THE GLUE THAT CREATES COHESIVENESS AND DIRECTION not only to the communities we serve but to those we plan to serve and to those who are served by the foods that will be created by the communities we serve. In 2020 the leaders have recognized that the engagement of the farmers to the food security equation is necessary, however they are stuck on a morass of how to be supportive of the farmers directly and often the money has been siphoned off before the benefits of these multinational and national programs actually gets to the farms with not enough bolus to make a difference. By 2050 we can look back on the time when the transformative SFS program started to take hold in the maize domain and quickly took over the whole of agriculture. By now, in 2050 the benefits to other industries such as cow health for better, less diseased milk, more nutritious chickens because of more nutritious feed, the increase in natural fisheries because of decrease of nitrogen and phosphorous pollution have all become normal. The idea of food insecurity seen in 2020 is now a historical remnant of the past in 2050. SFS mission is to produce transformational maize farming solutions; developing innovative ways to finance and implement profitable global initiatives that directly empower and impact the local community while substantially contributing to a vastly improved economic result; radically increasing delivery of more nutritious food and rejuvenated soil. The model system used is called Regional Economics Agricultural and Community Help (REACH) program. It is through this mission that goals to empower local farmers in groups become the base for a farm to table solution that will benefit each level of the value chain as it currently exists as the core of the sustainable business proposition for SFS. Salvation Farming Solutions partnership is supported by REACH and other regional partnerships in establishing sustainable innovation platforms. Farmers will be grouped by geography into cadres supported by REACH to create local empowerment for action into this transformational farming methodology. The farmer groups will be engaged using mastery teaching processes to insure learning and application of new farming practices adopted into regional and cultural norms including on-the-field trainings. The leaders of each group will be local students and other professionals who have been trained by SFS trainers. By taking a systems approach SFS has linked to the multi-stakeholders in each region as they are launching and maintaining production started in 2020 and now in 2050 it is regular to see SFS signs in farming communities all across the planet and to see SFS foods predominant in the food stores as a measure of quality, service to society, and priced competitively (affordable). Community is at the center of the SFS Program, first starting with a market study to determine the needs of the farming community from information at the agro-dealers. Then as products are introduced to the community by the extension workers who compile the data collected from meetings during the cropping cycle from groups of 20-25 farmers each that gives detailed and supportive information about the products but also allows SFS to collect baseline data about other peripheral needs that are shared with the partners at each level of the SFS delivery system in order to better able to serve their needs at the farm and in their communities. When people are pulled out of a desperate situation, first there is happiness and relief, then there is wonderment about will things go back to bad again, and ultimately there is acceptance. Transformation takes place at many levels and can be equated like the flow of a river. At the bank there is water that pools and is slower and as you move towards the center of the river the flow is faster in speed and in volume moving. Transformation for SFS has taken off like the river flow with some parts moving slower and pooling and other parts moving forcefully stronger and quicker. It is very easy to see how the whole earth will quickly see transition towards SFS technology because of high productivity, betterment for the soil with regenerative practices, and nutritional density of the food while still be competitively priced from the costs of these inputs to the selling price of the maize/corn to the consumer and related products. SFS is coming at a time when farmers are committing suicide at an alarming rate due to their inability to meet the financial needs to continue farming. They have leveraged the farm and other assets just to be able to plant one more time, often the soil is unwilling to yield what it once did before and disease, pests or effects of drought and overused soil take hold to lower production to a total less or of the same to the input costs and as it often is less than the bank loans interest which cannot be paid. Rather than facing the sad music many farmers commit suicide or just plain leave farming altogether. With the advent of SFS in 2020 farmers one by one adopted in communities in cadres began to see the economic and SFS technology in some way. People once on the verge of hopelessness in 2020, now in 2050 have high hopes for a number of years since transformation has occurred and people in general are happier.  By Leonard Sonnenschein, Founder SFS.

In sub-Saharan Africa, a lack of access to necessary inputs contributes to low agricultural productivity. The study assessed awareness of ISFM technologies and access agricultural information. The study underscores the important role played by community based channels of communication in the ISFM knowledge dissemination and suggests a need to improve the provision of extension services to agro-input dealers to enable them effectively communicate information about ISFM technologies to farmers.

The residues of pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and over-use of soil have led to an inability for production to reach optimized levels. The structures for financing and subsidizing the farmers are broken and proved to be less effective and unsustainable. The effects of climate change have marginalized productivity due to change in soil conditions and relative cropping equations.
