There are number of organisations to collaborate with as follows; 1. TARI ifakara An organization working with rice research.This organization is the most closer institute to work with in the field of rice since 2007 2.Ilonga Agricultural Institute This is associated with traing of farmers and agricultural extension officers. It also responsible for training field officers on social economical factors affecting farmers in the rice irrigation schemes Since 2007. 3. Tanzania Sustainable Agriculture This is an organization working with KATRIN in collaboration this has been since 2018 3.Ifakara district council provides us with field officers to work with in the irrigation schemes This collaboration ha existed since 2007 4. Lutheran World relief This has involved in tutors capacity building in training both students and farmers and the relationship has existed since 2016

In Ifakara sub town Morogoro region about 400km from Dar es salaam in Tanzania. It is in the south west of Morogoro town.

TANZANIA EAST AFRICA. The country is experiencing good rainfall in Morogoro region and the other parts of it.

Your Selected Place: what’s the name of the Place you’re developing a Vision for?

The vision is f 600km2

Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.

The irrigation scheme named above all found along Kilombero valley with good soils for agriculture particularly rice ,Sugarcane and other food crops.All these schemes have access to Kilombero agricultural training and research institute where they get extension services and recommendations

Students doing both Certificate and Diploma in general agriculture are allocated in those schemes for field practical to work with farmers in the entire duration of field practical.

But the most important thing is that farmers are working with areas having untested soil status so as to take proper measures.

The Schemes are Located in Kilombero valley which is highly populated and that the issue of critical argument on how to feed the future growing population

Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.

The irrigation schemes located at the foot of Udzungwa mountain ranges .These moutain ranges have permanent streams with water flowing throughout the year. Farming is the main activity for most of the people . The area has been occupied by various people from various places due to good soil for agriculture.

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.

Currently it world population is more than six billion people and is expected to reach ten billion people by the year 2050.Challenges as regards to food crops production have extremely increased where to a great extent have been accelerated by climate change.

Climate change has accelerated new weed varieties infestation, Varieties of pests and diseases this resulting to failure of our common crop varieties to withstand the situation.

Irrigation schemes have also faced number of challenges including rise or increase of salt in the soil there by making difficult for common crop varieties for example rice to do well, there by demanding mitigation strategy to combat the situation .

Climate change which is a result of Global warming has created a challenge to the life of biological community both to animals and plants in terms  of growth and development.

The situation described above can`t be solved by a single solution but a multifaceted strategy catering couple  of discipline from natural science to social science and even beyond that scope.

From the general concept described above, Kilombero Agricultural training and research Institute (KATRIN) has realized a gape to be addressed as regards to future rice production increase. There are number of rice varieties that have been developed to mitigate various factors including high yielding varieties, Salt tolerant varieties and those which can produce yield at minimal water use.

Also there are various production techniques on rice that have been researched including System of rice intensification (SRI), the best approaches to combat weed and pests and natural methods of combating pests but these researched and well disseminated to the local farmers who are the potential base as regards to food crop production in Tanzania.

Rice Seed availability suiting various ecological zone and  healthy quality produce

Taking care of the environment

Involving other key decision makers including policy makers

Coppying strategy and mitgation of the climatical changes in crop production processing and distribution

High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.

By improving agricultural production with good farming practices that takes care about the future lively hood of the soil and good quality produce, and also involving various stake holders including Policy makers  Agro- dealers, Nutritionist together can bring about not only high crop yield and good quality alone bat also taking care of the enveroment and combating the climate change through either copping strategy or mitgation to enhance a continued food production and sustainability 

Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?

Soil renewal as a main media for crop production is of vital important,The use of good farming practices and new adopted technologies with the inclusion of various stake holders fro health policy makers producers and farm input produces together with environmentalist have to concur in decision making parteining crop production and distribution.Having the right seed varieties to suit different conditions in various agroecological zones iv of paramount important.
