Lead Applicant: In what city or town are you located?

Lead Applicant: In what country are you located?

Your Selected Place: what’s the name of the Place you’re developing a Vision for?

Nobiwam ( 30 miles from Kumasi)

What country is your selected Place located in?

Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.

It is a farming zone, with a climate that is friendly to farming. It is near us

This place is the center to the country and we can have the facility to have beneficiaries from all over the country and it is easily accessible

Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.

Nobiwam is one of the towns of the new Juaben Municipal assembly where people mainly live on agriculture, petty trading. Farming is a major activity and the most farmed crops are the cocoa, which is the cash crop many families rely on for income over years. The major food people eat on a regular basis is fufu, which is made of cassava and plantain pounded together to make a paste they eat with either light soup, groundnut soup or palm nut soup. They are majority Ashantis known as Akans who are known to live in matrilineal systems.

People attach more importance to farming ( cocoa) as it is the most lucrative activity for past years. We have other crops grown in the areas such as rice, plantain, cassava and we are having people getting interested in aquaculture and animal farming

People in nobiwam is a calm people whose traditions are kept intact with a string family system that protect their culture. the chieftaincy is a very important and venerated institution as it guarantees peace and harmony in this community as it is in the other nearby towns.

What is the approximate size of your Place, in square kilometers? (New question, not required)

What is the estimated population (current 2020) in your Place?

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.

The current challenges the food system has here is the lack of diversity in farmed crops and people farm the same thing all times. What the farm is harvested at the same time by everyone and they lack markets. the standards are the same, the quality is the same and one fail to do better to earn better

There are issues related to the conservation and preservation of harvest. The government has less intervention in assisting farmers to improve yields and quality in the region. People still end up poor because their farming does not help them better their lives.

They farm on larger land scales ( cocoa farms) and this type of farming has no associated crops and the cocoa plantations occupy the land for years and years and make the land poor.

There is a challenge in getting proper technology and farming inputs that can make their farming more yielding and attractive. In the efforts to increase yields, they use chemicals ( fertilizers) that at the long run, will kill the soil and poule water bodies and cause diseases

In the future, there will be more soil degradation if no measure is taken to introduce new modern technologies that can be used in agriculture. Modernization (mechanization) and new farming inputs will lead farming to futility. People will get poorer and poorer because the population increases, no more spaces for farming and their economic vulnerability will increase and if no measure is taken, the environment will deteriorate

Address the Challenges: Describe how your Vision will address the challenges described in the previous question.

Our Approach is to establish a modern demonstration farm that will introduce new technology and techniques in farming where our selected beneficiaries will learn skills and practices that will improve their farming activities, protect the environment ( use of organic manure instead of chemicals, learning irrigation systems appropriate to their farms, etc)

Trained farmers will be trainers on their own to initiate and replicate the same models in their farms where we shall install mechanisms to follow up and make them agri-entrepreneurs and job creators for others while we feed agro-processing industries arising all over, while we add value to farming ( diversity of crops) and increase income generation for them.

We shall introduce different types of farming backed up by new technologies ( ICT) to enhance novelty and innovation to make it attractive to the youth who leave villages to the cities and end up in abject poverty in cities, making our security problematic

High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.

With this vision, people will be more farmers-entrepreneurs and will contribute to the development of their village as more agro-processing factories such as animal feed producers, agricultural inputs suppliers, food processing factories etc. They are likely to have their lives improved to the extent of having their lives bettered

The center is to be a center for excellence in the rural farming technologies and we may be a point of reference to other endings -rural-poverty programs and we shall influence policymakers as interns and researchers shall have practicals in our centers.

Also, it intends to be a center for research in rural farming, to distribute new breeds, seedlings, and species well adapted to the environment.

That is in the domain of Aquaculture where we introduced Aquaponics based food system

Apiculture where we introduce good methods and practices in beekeeping

Horticulture where we demonstrate organic farming

All this will help the youth see farming as a business, ventures will reduce migration of youth we see crossing boarders to run away from Africa, clouding our cities and the population will have access to a whole range of quality food, and emergence of petty traders will make income available to the poor families.

Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?

We solve a multi-dimensional issue involving environmental protection, economic empowerment of vulnerable people, increasing food productions to end rural poverty and hunger, contribute to the well being of the people by letting them consume healthier food ( chemical-free food)

It will be a solution to ills related to market and marketing. conservation and preservation of food crops. It will lead to an increase in food production, anding hunger as the project will be scaled up in many other regions and countries where our organization is present
