Shibuyungi district, in the outskirts of Lusaka town, where this project will be located has some physical and social advantages to support this business. It has good road networks, communication facilities to ensure easy accessibility by the customers and other stakeholders. There is sufficient land for housing the project and for extension latter to come. Social support services such as advisory services are easily accessible from agricultural and fisheries extension experts to ensure the project’s products are of superior quality. Other advantages are that this place has a large army of unemployed labour to be employed on the project, particularly the women and youth.

Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.

The shibuyungi district mainly has two types of soils – sandy and clay loamy. The rainfall has been good in the past seasons except from the year 2017 to 2019 farming seasons which experienced droughts and short dry spells in some areas. The major crops grown in shibuyungi district are maize, cassava, sweet potatoes and groundnuts. While women are involved selling dry and fresh fish on the local market as well as along the line of rail, they are also involved in growing all the crops that men do not take part in growing groundnuts, cowpeas and sweet potatoes. Men are involved in maize, cassava cultivation and some are fishermen. The first two are both cash and food crops. These are regarded women’s crops. There is no specific age attributed to types of crops grown as youths work with their parents. It is in this district that T&D Company’ Fishing Processing and Packaging Plant is located in shibuyungi district at a place called Malela Area in the outskirts of Lusaka town.

For a poultry/fish enterprise to be successful it must have a reliable market for its products and a steady supply of reasonably priced quality feed. It is important that feed resources are locally available. This business’ market already exists locally in the new district of shibuyungi and its town who number to over 15,000 people which include many new civil servants who need to be fed daily and the province by this business. We shall as well target the urban markets on the line rail such as Lusaka, the Copper belt, Lumwana which have large population of people who need to be fed daily. Many of these are our potential target customers number over 10,000,000 people of different towns and places in Zambia who enjoy fish and chicken which we shall be making available to them to buy as relish.

We are seeking funding of ZMK: 2, 069, 500, 00 from rockfeller foundation food system to capitalize this business by securing equipment, machinery, inputs, labour and others

2000

What is the estimated population (current 2020) in your Place?

15000

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.

lack of technical knowledge to facilitate the effective and successful application of the theoretical knowledge into practical and luck of funding for startups businesses hence people will end up eating food which are not fully processed and they will be shortage of food and poverty levels will increase and the last thing is the production target is never meet

Address the Challenges: Describe how your Vision will address the challenges described in the previous question.

The business  has a greater hope  of processing fish reared by itself and that produced by other fish farmers in  Zambia. This anthe initiative developed to provide for food security, contribute to poverty alleviation and job creation among hardest hit people living in abject poverty especially the women and the youth in the country to cushion these people in the local communities against the devastating effects approaching climate change in the district and nation or the world at large. One of the known effects of climate change is that food prices will continue to escalate as the globe gets warmer and warmer. The food production will become negatively affected by flash floods, droughts and other disasters. This, however,is an opportunity for this business to exploit the hard conditions imposed by climate change and make money for high food prices.

High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.

they will be food for everyone to eat. A lot of people will find will be employed which means the the poverty levels will reduce the other thing is that a lot of people will be trained not only theoretical but also in practicals which will make a lot of people to come on board and help meet the target in producation
