Lead Applicant: In what city or town are you located?

Lead Applicant: In what country are you located?

Your Selected Place: what’s the name of the Place you’re developing a Vision for?

We attempt to develop the whole Indonesia, both rural and urban. But now we still focus to revolutionize West and East Java until 2020.

What country is your selected Place located in?

Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.

Indonesia is my home country and i’ve been living here for 27 years. Here in Indonesia, farmers regeneration are decreasing these days, while on the other hand the number of population keeps growing. Most farmers have been living under the poverty line due to the limited access to capital from the bank. Therefore, middlemen and loan sharks replace the function of banks and mistreated farmers by giving them undeniably high rates of loan. We made CROWDE to help farmers so they are able to get better and faster financing, access to capital, and ability to connect their projects to retail investors that interested in agriculture.

Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.

Indonesia is a tropical country and is located in Southeast Asia. Indonesia is known for its friendliness and unique culture. Indonesia has 1300+ ethnic groups and has 267 million inhabitants. We used to speak Bahasa with several can speak English. Here, people used to eat rice as staple food with various side dish. Currently, Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing account for about 13.35% of Indonesian GDP or USD 133.46 billion in dollar terms. Indonesia’s economic growth is heavily dependent on agriculture sector for the past years, even decades, and we use to have farmer as majority.

What is the estimated population (current 2020) in your Place?

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.

Indonesia’s food system nowadays faced unsustainable course. The problem begins with the lack of sustainablity on the intensive use of non-renewable and complicated-renewable resources, such as fresh water, fossil fuel, and antibiotics. In the other hand, rapid population growth also take effect of food production and need a fast move improvement of food system supply chain. But, food system constained by technical, information, social, and economic. Technically, smallholder farmers doing plating based on hereditary technique, doing traditionally, unadapt with environment make the weekness grow bigger. Farmer also have small information of agriculture, such as supply chains, commodity markets, and access of it. Economic and social approach paralelly with food system, but in other hand, smallholder farmers got a little touch of it and resulted many farmers didn’t have the opportunity to continue their business. Here, we attempt to solve these problems hand in hand with smallholder farmers and investors that interest in agriculture. Food system in 2050 will be a massive challenge. It’s not about the financial or how to access information or enough food to produce, but a lot more than that: there’s billion people that don’t have access to that food. Stands for that cource, fix financial deregulation, form a strict climate change policy, and support Indonesia’s ability to built our own food system trough funding, technology, and education.

Address the Challenges: Describe how your Vision will address the challenges described in the previous question.

As in 2020 agriculture will face unsustainable course and one of them is about economic and social obstacle. We will continue to help smallholder farmer by allowing them to get capital in order to increase their productivity. By giving access to financial to smallholder farmer, it will allow us to achieve zero hunger.

High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.

Trough funding, information, and education we give, they’re able to increase their productivity and have no limited access to distribute its product to consumer. Therefore, it will decrease number of people that obese, hungry, and those who get no access of it.

Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?

We connect smallholder farmer with investor that interested in agriculture and funding them. We also provide training about better technique to do planting through technology, education about financial literacy and many other, and information about commodities market and things about agriculture to support farmer to produce best quality nourish food productively.

Hi Yohanes Sugihtononugroho ,

Welcome to the Food System Vision Prize Community!

Thank you for your vision that farmers can get better access to funding and technology innovation.

I have some feedback that you may find it helpful:

First, your selected place is Indonesia, which is bigger than 100,000km2 as we recommend. The purpose of the Food System Vision Prize is to make visions systemic, context-specific and human-centered, therefore, it is important to focus the Vision for a particular region. If you still feel you'd like to address the Vision region for more than 100,000 km2, could you share more reasons to justify it?

Can you share more about how your Vision will address the following six interconnected themes: Environment, Diets, Economics, Culture,Technology and Policy?

How might you evolve your Vision to make it more inclusive and systemic for your local food system and its numerous stakeholders? You can find some guiding principles on Systems Thinking and inspiration in the Vision Prize Toolkit in Chapter 3:

Look forward to seeing your Vision evolve through the coming weeks.
