Lead Applicant: In what city or town are you located?

Lead Applicant: In what country are you located?

Your Selected Place: what’s the name of the Place you’re developing a Vision for?

North and Central India. Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Bihar, Rajasthan

What country is your selected Place located in?

Describe your relationship to the place you’ve selected.

India is an agriculture country.

I am born and brought up in Madhya Pradesh, India. I have lived the water scarcity in the cities. Have been hearing a lot of farmers suicide due to less water and low yield crops.

Our product is a soil conditioner and it improves plants growth too.

There are many benefits to the farmers by using these product.

Though Swacch Bharat Abhiyan run by Government of India has made the cities clean but we need a solution for wet waste.

Our second product is compost fertilizer which can help in improving soil health.

Farmers needs these products awareness and these product will also make the cities sustainable.

Climate change is also effecting farming. We need to take action now to reduce the climate change effect if not reverse it.

Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.

Madhya Pradesh is centrally located. As like other parts of Northen India, this state also sees extreme weather conditions. Summers are too hot, rains are delayed.

Hot summers causes condition of drought. Drought effects the farmers the most. And with a huge population depending on agriculture, a lot of families reply on farming as source of earnings.

Agriculture distress in Madhya Pradesh, was considered a clincher in recent election.

Depleting water resources and increase in population both adversely effect the water usage.

Government are running schemes for farmers and many relaxations are also provided but still not enough and lot can be done.

The farmers believe in old farming techniques and feel hesitant to switch to new and better options as risk taking capacity has reduced or is negligible due to cash crunch and monetary restrictions.

We are manufacturing cocopeat, its a soil conditioner. It enhances the water retention capacity of soil and reduces water evaporation. Hence plant grown in a mix of cocopeat and soil needs 30-40% less water to grow compared to plants grown only in soil.

Also cocopeat is a biodegrable, ecofriendly and environment friendly product which can help improve the health and growth of plant.

Farmers can get many benefits by using this product. It can indirectly improve ground water level too which can be beneficial in long run.
Attached is a video which shows, plants need less water when grown in cocopeat.

What is the approximate size of your Place, in square kilometers? (New question, not required)

What is the estimated population (current 2020) in your Place?

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.

Environment and Economics goes hand in hand.

As the climate conditions are not in favor of farmers so their economic conditions are miserable. Farmers depends on crop yield and crop yield depends on water availability and soil health. Due to low earning levels , not all farmers are able to use high price products and borewell too.

Government policies are there but not all get the benefit or if they do, it is not enough.

Technological advancements are not for poor as it demands money.

Our soil conditioner is a low priced product and can be made available to farmers for betterment of crops.

Address the Challenges: Describe how your Vision will address the challenges described in the previous question.

Cocopeat, is made from husk and dust of coconut. So we are upcycling coconut waste. It reduced coconut waste from landfills.

Also it reduces water evaporation so less water is need for plant to grow as it retain the water.

Wet waste compost fertilizer is our other product and it again help to reduced wet waste from being added to landfills and make the city sustainable.

Also if added to soil, it improves soil health and the time farmers waste while preparing soil before next crop can be reduced, even burning of crops which causes smog can also be avoided.
It can help farmers to earn a little extra penny too as the excess compost they can sell in market.

High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.

If soil conditioner is introduced, the quantity of water needed for farming can be reduced and crops will need less upto 30-40% less water. Being a biodegradable product it can degrade in soil and nourish it too.

Also by adding compost fertilizers , soil quality can be improved.

We can make soil better while growing crops.

Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?

As the climate change is effecting the farming, these products can come as a great help to a population completely dependent on farming .

They can do better in less resources.

The product is not only environment friendly by pocket friendly too.

It has been tested and has provided good result.
