I was born in Cartagena de Indias and I know the commerce very well and how is the nature of selling the products, how the city has moved to the commercial, tourist level, very visited by presidents, people of the international farandula, international events are held in my city.

Because of its importance of tourism, many products are commercialized and it is the main commercial port of products outside Colombia and within Colombia, it is a very commercial city

Describe the People and Place: Provide information that would be helpful for an outsider who has never been there and may have no context about this Place to better understand the area.

Cartagena de Indias D. T. and C. is a city of 1,036,134 inhabitants, according to population projections of the DANE for the year 2018. 96% of this population resides in the urban area and 4% in the rural area.

At a meal on Thursday night, the president of Proexport announced that in the second agribusiness macrorueda held in Cartagena sponsored by that entity, US $ 77 million had been negotiated. The initial expectation was to reach US $ 66 million.

With that good result, the task of keeping 3,000 business meetings between 230 Colombian sellers and 177 international buyers from 35 countries of the world will continue. Among them are two new assistants, Saudi Arabia and Sweden, said Ricardo Vallejo, Vice President of exports of the entity

Companies from China Japan and Korea have been one of the main attractions of the event. They are after Colombian vendors of chicken legs, a product that Asians appreciate and require. Tropical fruits are also one of the most interesting lines in the Macrorueda. A group of Italian buyers increased their orders for organic bananas to a national company. With that, 100 new jobs will be created and more supplies such as cardboard boxes and pallets will be demanded.

On the other hand, it was established that in addition to organic products, the sectors with the greatest export potential to Europe are exotic fruits: granadilla, cape gooseberry and curuba. In addition, nuts and preserves, as well as food preparations such as jams, mayonnaises and sauces, have a good chance of closing deals.

Spanish buyers were interested in other fruits such as lemon tahiti. It is planned that today Friday the Spanish close new businesses in shrimp and spirits with Colombian sellers.

Of 15 treaties that are signed, Cartagena sends eight destinations to them. And Buenaventura receives from nine origins.

Cartagena has access to 614 terminals in 140 countries. With respect to 2013, it increased its connectivity by adding 17 ports.

“72% of Colombian exports go through Cartagena. A port is competitive if it has enough frequencies and connection to destination sites, ”added Captain Salas.

When talking about the port that receives purchases from Colombian business, Buenaventura is the favorite. Products from Costa Rica arrive at the platform (29.5%); Andean Community of Nations (Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador) 66.3%; Northern Triangle 47.6%; Canada 57.8%; Korea 95.8%; Efta 37.8%; Mercosur 39.8%; Pacific Alliance 37.2%; Chile 76.5%.
