Uganda is predominantly an agrarian economy, with very many scattered small holder farmers dealing in production of variety of both cash and food crops. 80% of the population is belaw 35years and thus portrays a youthful country. Uganda has two rainy seasons in a year where farmers engage in production of seasonal crops, lately however there has been climatic changes leading to some loses registered by farmers. Uganda has a number of tribes and cultures and they are clustered in the different regions of the country, each of these cultures have their staple foods and some regions already known for production of particular crops. Due to changes in the climatic conditions and new trends of pest and diseases in addition to soil exhaustion, food production has remained at the mercy of spraying synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, this has lead to increased health issues. However the situation is not yet alarming it can still be managed especially with alot of waste animal material that can be processed into organic fertiliser to reduce Green house gases and also leverage on the proliferation of mobile technology to provide farmers with infrmation and ensure sustainable production of health foods. The education levels of the people in uganda is average but however steadly increasing and thus can easily adopt to technological advancement.

What is the estimated population (current 2020) in your Place?

43000000

Challenges: Describe the current (2020) and the future (2050) challenges that your food system faces.

The people of uganda have lately been faced with climatic changes in seasons and prolonged drought seasons, this has negatively affected food production, The population also is faced with sustainable measures of food production and predominantly depend on season with very few cases of individuals and companies adopting agricultural technologies that can ensure production through out the year. There are also high cases of malnutrition especially of the infant population, There is a an economic challenge of agricultural price fluctuations due to a small processing industry but also unguided production. The population rigidity to old methods of farming and not low adaptation to new technologies.

Address the Challenges: Describe how your Vision will address the challenges described in the previous question.

Our vision seeks to guide farmers through use of low cost technologies to first and far most ensure sustainable production and thus increase production for both household and income generation, it also seeks to organise farmers digitally in groups and so they can easily be located with their bio data and production capacity expectations but also to ease information through mobile phone technology sharing and ensure collective marketing and producing organic foods

High Level Vision: With these challenges addressed, now provide a high level description of how the Place and the lives of its People will be different than they are now.

Organized farmer clusters, informed and equipped with production information, market information and with enough food security and income percapita, increased processing and value addition to the locally produced foods. High levels of youth employment. A population that leverages on mobile technology proliferation to ensure sustainability in food production

Full Vision: How do you describe your Vision for a regenerative and nourishing food future for your Place and People for 2050?

Use of organic fertilisers and pestcides provided for under agricombo ensures reduction in green house gases and also improves both soil and health of people. The low cost technologies also ensure production through out the year and thus ensures farmers are economically empowered throughout the year. The presence of organised and registered farmer clusters will ease information sharing and increased use of technology in agriculture.
