Who is your idea designed for and how does it support the dreams and obligations of those 50 and older?

We are all living longer, and creating a means for someone to work longer is probably the most sound financial planning strategy there is. Given low saving rates, there is only so much you can do to create a secure financial future once lives have been lived, so what to do when you are 50 and have not saved enough? work longer, but perhaps differently.

Credit unions and MasterCard to be leaders in creating Elderhood Internship programs that helps integrate 50+ into workforce.  Create such a program and potentially lead a consortium of firms that believes in the importance of workforce development for the 50+ community - not only for social purposes, but also for the talent and wisdom of such community!

What early, lightweight experiment might you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?

Pilot internship at a few locations.

What skills, input or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?

Designing internship program with HR and business partners.

Hi Wingee!

Thank you for your post.

How would these internships differ from the internships for millennials?

I have a similar question.
Wingee, some ideas could be focusing on things people 50+ have already established. Internships in cooking, writing, story telling etc. I think internships that allow people to cook their favorite "family secret" dishes and things like that could be beneficial to them, restaurants and the consumer. The qualifying criteria would be X amount of years cooking. and I'm not sure if restaurants present internship type opportunities but that could be extremely interesting. Same goes for storytelling, I know The Moth and other storytelling organizations have internships and I can imagine a 50+ internship with them.
