Who is your idea designed for and how does it support the dreams and obligations of those 50 and older?

Our idea is designed to use the prison reform and education system to help aid rehabilitation and leaning for its users. These users being UK Category D inmates and general public over 50. The charity is going to be used to educate the non risk prisoners how to teach correctly with the information we want to inform those over 50's who want to learn about financial services. These skills can be use to achieve dreams and overcome obligations with better financial knowledge and understanding.

Steps is a charity that creates new opportunities for those over 50 and UK Category D prisoners. With our innovative scheme we will help go into current UK Cat D prisons, set up teachers in the education systems already there, and teach the low risk inmates how to teach others. We will help them build confidence and their abilities to educate. This will be put to work when we let them teach in community centres to our financial support groups. These will be focused on a class plan above. The charity will focus on building a network of teaching inmates and those over 50's who have learnt how to use our program, this will then spread to other places and people.

Everyone deserves a new start, many UK charities now are already helping in prisons and we want to join this group, the unique and strange charities are getting the best returns with reoffending rates being down 48% in some like The clink. We think a course that educates them how to teach will show new horizons and new beginnings for our current low risk inmate community.

What early, lightweight experiment might you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?

Take a class in the local community with an ex prisoner. This will see a response whether good or bad and we can produced a better plan. If we take it into the local community we have real life feedback from people 50 and over.

What skills, input or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?

We feel that OpenIDEO could help with more of the legality side of things. We also think they can help with the ethical side to make things on both sides.

Tell us about your work experience:

All of the group are Product Design students and one of the group members has worked in a prison charity to helping reduce reoffending.

I really like the idea of involing prisoner rehabilitaion in with helping the elderly achive their goals. What type of thing will the prisoners be helping the elderly with?

Hi there Ben, the prisoners will be taught a wide range of lessons to teach the prisoners, there is a lesson plan and a leaflet in the attachments that show what they would do. Hope this answers your question.
