Professional Intern Program - Employee Human Matching System

A two sided network platform to enable businesses to tap into wide human experience (age 50 +) while encouraging a wide spread participation

Who is your idea designed for and how does it support the dreams and obligations of those 50 and older?

The idea is designed to enable 50+ individuals with quality experience to participate in short-term programs to benefit from intellectually challenging projects, while providing a rich experience gateway to corporations participating in the program.

The idea is establishing a professional internship program and manage the execution of the program using probabilistically weighted skill and task matching system. The success of the program is dependent on three major components: Participating Firms, 50+ individuals with a varied & rich experience, and a platform to match individuals to respective task. The goal is to establish short projects (6 months) leveraging various work tasks. The platform then matches individuals respective to the work tasks and availability to form an experience team targeted with a singular objective of meeting the defined project goal.

Benefit for the Organizations: The organizations can tap into a varied rich resource hub to achieve an well defined output with measurable objective. This program can further be tailored and tweaked based on successive requests from different partner organizations

Benefit for the 50+ individuals: Inputs from the research highlights that a huge number of people wants to continue participating in the world they live in. Financial management is just one component of a healthy life, the other is a goal oriented active participation. The program not only provides financial rewards for their participation but also help them transfer their knowledge / skill into the workforce while guaranteeing an objective oriented active participation.

What early, lightweight experiment might you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?

Interest gauge from the employer community and as well as leveraging human research data from those 50+ in order to measure demand and supply for the professional network

What skills, input or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?

Research and input to further explore the idea. I would love to partner with people with varied skill set to test and design this idea further.

Tell us about your work experience:

I work as management consultant for an large asset management firm. I have helped budding companies traverse idea generation to execution definition, as well as helping them create a balanced framework to measure and track success.

This idea emerged from

  • An Individual

How would you describe this idea while in an elevator with someone?

The core idea is based on the belief that financial planning for 50+ is a "holistic approach" and therefore requires us to rethink based on the lifecycle of the end-users. The idea centers' around a platform that help create projects (typically short-term) and enables users to apply to be part of the projects, helping reinvest intellectual capital. These projects could be single or team oriented.

How might your idea be transferable to a large number of people?

This idea is easily scalable both in a micro & a macro orientation platform, i.e. we can customize project selection and assignment at a local scale (micro market) replicable across the globe as well as a macro global market enabling users to participate on projects globally. One of the key fundamental drivers required is the transaction and payment model to be used in the platform. We envision a digital XAC/payment system, such as the Sperig(tm) platform to power the system.

How do you plan to measure the impact of your idea?

The initial phase, designed to gain adoption and stickiness, will be measured by the participation level, using metrics such as monthly active users (MAU). Incresingly we would focus on user economic health, using metrics such as avg. income generated, as well as transactions completed within the platform.

What are your immediate next steps after the challenge?

Step 1) Finalization of the MVP design architecture of the platform with inputs from the community Step 2) Discussing prototype and feedback with the sponsors Step 3) Designing MVP

I really like this idea. People 50+ usually have too many ideas and there is no way where to store, share, discuss, offer andgain money out if it. Just to add a service and a constraint:
First the service: How are you going to ensure IP is handled? Or do you think of certain new license models?
And now the constraint: How are you planning to overcome that usually people at 50+ are considered being less creative, less innovative?

This is a great idea! Is the plan to host a wide variety of work opportunities on the platform? How would employers discover the platform? Will there be an intermediary between employer and worker, or is the platform a place where they can communicate directly?
Will the platform be available exclusively to CU members?

Thanks Bettina. The platform serves as an engine to connect both the networks, one which needs help and the other that wants to provide one.

CU primary vision of serving the community its operates in provides the perfect narrative to implement the system. I would envision the application of the system to be limitless in terms of reach.

I am unable to upload or edit the idea so I have provided the youtube link for a video presentation below.

Hi,

We created a small presentation to better dictate the high level idea. I am unable to upload or edit the idea so I have  provided the youtube link below.

Hi Adnan!

I hope you had a good start to the year.

Have you thought about the user journey for your idea and what small part of the user journey you could prototype?

There is also a few finalist ideas from a previous challenge that you want to look at:

https://challenges.openideo.com/challenge/healthy-lives/top-ideas/economias-colaborativas-de-la-abuela - has a great user journey

https://challenges.openideo.com/challenge/higher-ed/impact/1gen2fund - is a matching idea that might give you a few ideas

Thanks Kate.

We Team are currently finalizing 2 or 3 user journeys and would be prototyping key steps, such as the initial on-boarding and project matching phase.

Hi Adnan!

I came across the following which may be of interest:

Over 290 employers have signed the AARP Employer Pledge publicly stating that they value experienced workers and believe in equal opportunities for workers of all ages. Explore the full list here, and see what job openings might await.

Welcome to the Refinement phase Adnan and team! We've added new Refinement questions to your original submission that we'd love for you to answer. Please check out the Refinement Phase Toolkit for instructions on how to answer the new questions and other recommendations we encourage all idea teams to consider in the upcoming weeks.

Lastly, here's a useful tip: When you update the content of your post, it'd be helpful to indicate this in your idea title by adding an extension. For example, you can add the extension " - Update: Experience Maps 12/21" to you idea title. This will be a good way to keep people informed about how your idea is progressing!

Hi Adnan!

Would this platform also sort out things like tax, social security contributions for the 50+ i.e. act as a tax advisor? Where would the credit union sit in this idea? How would it differ from some of the employment agencies that are focused on the 50+ market e.g. www.workforce50.com/ ?

The key to making the platform effective is focusing on the users using the human centred design concept. Most of the employment agencies are tough to navigate requires either constant inquiry and seldom results in reducing the active participation rate. In terms of what services the platform will address I would want to be informed by the demand of the users rather then envisioning a full end to end service system.

Fundamental principle: Encouraging project oriented task, that would require a short time stint, effectively under 6 months. This will help move the conversation from skill to desired output oriented.

Credit Unions: I see two primary role for the credit unions, one as the monetary payment disbursement system. The other as wealth de-cumulation based investing. Think about how to consume, save, invest from what existing assets a person might have and how the net addition affect in continued consumption.

Hi Adnan, interesting post!

What do you see as the role of credit unions in your idea?

Is there any chance you could find an image to go along with your post? Images help grab attention and tell a story. You should be able to use the Edit Contribution button on the top of your post and follow the instructions to add images from there. Looking forward to seeing more of your inspiring insights on OpenIDEO.
