Just thinking about Falling ...

Wrapping my head around what it means to fall

As I sat after reading a design CHALLENGE: How might we enable older adults to live their best possible life by preventing falls?

I'll bet little kids would like to prevent falls, too!

So, before I dove into a brainstorm of sketches, I sought to understand exactly WHAT is the problem.  Hence, my scribbles on a white board, and what MORE questions came up.  I will need further research and interviews for getting a better idea of what real concerns the aging community has about falling.

In the meantime, feel free to add to or answer my questions.  I'd appreciate it.

What is a provocation or insight that might inspire others during this challenge?

My own right knee greatly dislikes stairs - especially going up - and has limited my former running routine. This knee was the one that hit a rock after I tripped while trail running downhill, and eventually suffered an active scar tissue buildup that required arthroscopy surgery three years later. Nowadays, I don't know if I'd be able to get up and finish the run!

Tell us about your work experience:

I am a first year grad student - Industrial Design. I have a BS in Landscape Architecture, worked in network engineering, commercial real estate, ran businesses, trained users, & art is in all I do.
