Who is your idea designed for and how does it enable older adults to live their best possible life by preventing falls?

Designed for anyone whose lives with outdoor stairs or deck that might get a thin sheet of ice in winter; mobile and able older adults will be able to safely access outdoor living area during winter or rain conditions

My friends parents and grandparents broke or severely bruised bones because of slipping on ice and water outdoors. Preventing, detecting, and indicating sheets of water or ice should help avoid falls.

What early, lightweight experiment might you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?

If I lived in colder area: Combine moisture sensor with thermometer or local weather report to detect or forecast ice formation.

What skills, input, or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?

Chemist and chemical engineer; material scientist/engineer; moisture sensor expert; deck material manufacturer; outdoor wood product manufacturer; deck sealer manufacturer

How long has your idea existed?

  • 0-3 months

This idea emerged from
