Who is your idea designed for and how does it enable older adults to live their best possible life by preventing falls?

This app will quiz users on symptoms and facts to discover concussions, provide fall prevention tips, and connect to 911 and the user's contacts. This will be useful for family and friends who are unsure of whether someone needs to be taken to the hospital after a fall, and additionally be useful for the elderly if they are alone at the time of an incident.

Concussion's are often not treated properly after a fall, which can result in brain swelling or internal bleeding that can often lead to irreversible brain damage or death. The inspiration for this app comes from a personal experience where a family friend played down the impact to his head from a fall, and ultimately died overnight as a result of internal brain pressure. Greater awareness about head trauma symptoms could have persuaded my family friend to seek medical attention sooner.

This app aims to provide important information regarding the symptoms of concussions, and what actions should be taken based on the answer's provided to simple diagnosis questions. These questions would include ones that required the user to type answers specific to them, such as their address, so potential head trauma could be identified even if a person is alone at the time of an incident.

Other features, such as the ability to call 9-1-1 or a designated emergency contact, will also work to get users the attention needed after a fall.

What early, lightweight experiment might you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?

This app could easily be marketed through a senior center where opinions on its useful could be easily collected. It will be necessary to make sure that the elderly can operate the app in order for it to be successful. Additionally, A/B testing could be used in our test community to optimize the app's features and layout.

What skills, input, or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?

A software developer would be useful for the design of the applications. Additionally, a doctor's advice would be necessary to create an effective quiz to be used after a fall to ensure the fallen doesn't have head trauma.
