TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF

I guess I am a 'multipotentialite' based in the beautiful city of Amman, Jordan. I have a really cool day job as an Online Course Manager at Edraak.org - the first not-for-profit MOOC platform for the Arab World. In other words, I get to work with multidisciplinary teams and inspiring professors to bring free lifelong learning to hundreds of thousands of learners.

Before then, I lived in the UK for 5 years, where I earned an MPA in International Development and a BSc. in Economics.

Outside of work, you’ll find me people watching in a cafe while scribbling down stories and poems in my journal, or exploring beyond the limits of my comfort zone in a Contemporary dance class or Yoga studio.

WHICH CONTRIBUTIONS DID YOU SUBMIT DURING THIS CHALLENGE?

WHICH POST DID YOU RESONATE WITH THE MOST FROM THIS CHALLENGE?

A lot of posts from the challenge resonated with me. However, perhaps the one contribution that stood out to me the most this time around is A Dream Coming True by Arjan Tupan. I recently found out that the We Love Reading (WLR) initiative, which I introduced to OpenIDEO through a modest contribution in the Refugee Education Challenge, has been selected as one of the funded Top Ideas. This reminds me of the ‘butterfly effect’ - one post eventually led to funding a winning idea which will now serve hundreds of refugees.

HOW WILL YOU USE OPEN INNOVATION TO TACKLE TOUGH PROBLEMS IN THE NEAR FUTURE?

I am currently trying to introduce Design Thinking and Human Centered Design methods to my team at work and to other aspects of my life. I believe that developing empathy for the learners we design for or for the people around us in general will really help us go along way. As such, I will focus on introducing approaches for developing empathy first. I am also a strong believer in the power of bottom-up approaches and innovating with the target community.

WHAT’S ONE THING YOU’LL LOOK FORWARD TO ON OPENIDEO?

I look forward to participating in new challenges and to meeting and developing stronger bonds with more people from the OpenIDEO community. I also look forward to organizing a few meetups in my city and perhaps attending a global meetup, if one is to be organized in the near future.
