Open innovation changed the way of fashion

My fashion style match start-up idea encouraging ppl buy more. However, open innovation helped me change it and help solving textile waste.

I have a fashion start-up idea helping ppl mix match style that suit their own looks. I was very excited to push it forward, and then I joined an incubator event to pitch in front of VC, hoping to get invested.

In this event, I found a team of four people who comes from marketing, high tech, consulting firms and start-ups. At the beginning, I was so confident about my idea, but after one day`s pivot with several mentors, the idea goes everywhere but nowhere. We came back to phase 0 after an idea trip. I thought maybe it`s a wrong decision to involve too many people from different background, because every idea comes out, there must be a "But" to kill it.

In the second day, we get a design thinking mentor who introduced some "crazy" way to pivot my idea. This time, I thought it could not be worse, just give it a try. Surprisingly, we started to get so many crazy ideas, and people start to say "Yes, and". I was shocked how much an idea could be changed and how much people`s diverse idea could bring together if you just use the right methodology! At last, my idea pivot into clothes recycle plan helping people to reuse and exchange clothes, saving our planet from fast fashion waste. I could not imagine if we did not go through this process, where could this idea goes. And I really appreciate open innovation surprised me with an amazing result!
