Global Contribution in Real-Time

Creating a business plan with a handful of global collaborators across the globe in only six hours

After I had returned to Dresden in spring 2009 from a visit to the Finnish "management school without teachers" (coined by Peter Senge, author of "The Fifth Discipline") I envisioned to set up similar in the city.

During a meeting with a friend a couple of weeks later I learnt about the back then recently Etherpad real-time online editor. Later that year to make the idea of creating something similar as I had seen in Finland real an ongoing business plan competition for startups crossed my eyes. The only challenge: deadline for handing in the concept was the next day.

"Should I write the proposal on my own, or should I rather ask friends for joining me on doing so?"

Turned out that the project exited some of my globally spread friends, and Etherpad provided the space and opportunity to co-write the business plan in real-time (without any delay, or setting up an account for Google or other collaboration tools).

Within six hours we co-created (across several time zones all the way to China, where an alumnus of my alma mater was working now) a business plan that could be handed in the next day.
