Innovation is meant to develop or generate something based on existing solutions or products to provide value to the society. Open innovation is to make your solution open to others or involve others to find a solution of problem.

Open innovation is thus a bidirectional flow of communication between users to generate some value.

Bidirectional port of human communication has given full privileges to human whether to share your solution with others or not. You can use others ideas but it is up to you whether you want to share your solution with others or not.

Great perspective on defining what open innovation is to you Amna! And lovely point in saying: "you can use others ideas but it is up to you whether you want to share your solution with others or not." You might be also be interested to check out Dina's definition of open innovation here: https://challenges.openideo.com/challenge/exploring-open-innovation/research/open-innovation-thrives-in-the-space-of-juxtaposition
