Inventions happen by necessity , - the inventor sees a problem and solves it. However, oftentimes, the inventor sees beyond the boundaries of the particular problem the invention solves, and realizes that it may be applicable in other fields. Not being an expert in those fields, the inventor oftentimes lacks the resources necessary to implement the invention in such alternative areas.
Inventors may, however, be willing to explain the invention's potential benefits to experts in such alternative fields, who might not otherwise even know about the invention, as it was not originally designed to solve the problems they face. A platform allowing such presentation and sharing of information would address this information gap.
For example, our business owns an invention, which is based on the discovery made by our company's founder, Mr. Pavel Dourbal, of the world's fastest numerical method for solution of differential equations. (Described at http://arxiv.org/ftp/arxiv/papers/1602/1602.00001.pdf). We apply this method, successfully, to develop signal processing applications for telemetry, which is Mr. Dourbal's area of expertise. The method may also be applied for such other applications as big data analysis, machine vision, data compression and a number of other applications in fields which lie outside of our immediate expertise. A platform allowing us to share the potential benefits of our method and potentially cooperate with others on our method's implementation in other fields would be extremely helpful.
Therefore, I would urge OpenIDEO to consider creating such a platform.
